A mid-tier device that excels in performance and photography
1 month update:This is still a 5* product and shows no sign of lag or performance issues, despite being a mid-tier device.First of all, the phone has been put in a huawei clear case and has a tempered glass screen protector attached. As a result, there is no cosmetic damage to the device and as it hasn't been out of its case, I can't talk about the ability of it to be scratched easily.Camera quality is fantastic. As mentioned in my previous review, this product was for my partner but I play with her phone a lot. It can't quite compete with my mate 20 pro at night shots (night mode isn't as sophisticated) but daytime shots are much much closer. I do find the P20 adds a fair amount of saturation to each photo. It does it quite well, with the result of the photo often being much better with a very impressive degree of depth and clarity. It does over expose colours, quite like a Samsung device in my opinion. It's a personal preference whether you like this or not. I personally love it and love to see a photo with bright blue skies and strong vibrant colours. If you're after a photo wkth true colours then just bear in mind that this does make colours more vibrant.Performance is top notch and there is no sign of lag. The phone is regularly used for Facebook, Instagram, amazon etc and there have never been any issues. Gaming is great as well with no buffering occurring at any point. The same point can also l be made for viewing YouTube videos!Battery life is one of the best features. There has never been a time where there has been a rush for a charger. The phone is often charged at night and taken off charge at 8am. Afterwards it won't be put on charge until around 11pm and even then it will have a battery percentage of 5-20% depending on usage. This range has been consistent throughout the month of owning the device and there has been no sign of a degrading battery. If you're worried about the screen being low resolution, then don't because it hasn't bothered either of us in the slightest. Sure, colours and photos aren't quite as crisp in the resolution department but I'm only saying that while comparing it to my mate 20 pro. If I use the p20 for even 10 mins, my eyes adjust and I don't even realise its a lower resolution screen. The best part is that is results in a great battery life bump. Speaking of the screen, it's still fabulous despite it not being a curved screen. Finding tempered glass screen protectors is as easy as anything and practically ensures that my screen is properly protected.Overall, this is a flawless smartphone and 5* is the correct score for this device.Original review:I bought this device for my partner but as i am a phone fanatic, i decided to test the device myself and provide feedback on it.First off, design and build:The P20 consists of a notched 18.7:9 display which a glass front and back. It feels very sturdy and while fingerprint magnet, slapping on the supplied transparent case stops that. The phone display is 5.84 inches and, whilst i own a mate 20 pro, i found the size of the p20 to be much more comfortable. There isn't a headphone jack....but that really really doesn't bother me. This is my first phone where i haven't had a headphone jack and whilst i was thinking that i wouldn't be able to survive, it really really didn't bother me at all. The addition of the USB-C earphones are great and i frankly love the sound quality coming out of them. There is a dongle so if you have your BOSE or B&O earphones, then you can just attach them and you'll have super nice audio.Battery:The battery is very impressive. I like 'gaming' on my phones and this device stood up to PUBG like a boss and powered through without crashing. I did notice that the device heated up a little, but i've held worse devices before so it wasn't really a problem. Despite being a year old, the Kirin 970 processor is very efficient and handles gaming and among the like very well. Facebook, instagram, snapchat all worked without lag. When using it on light/medium usage, i was ending my day with about 30-40% battery. When playing games, i got about 6 hrs screen-on time which i was very happy about. All i had to do was leave my phone on charge for about 40 minutes and i found i had full battery so i am very impressed.I am a little disappointed about a lack of wireless charging but it doesn't really phase me too much.Camera:The camera is actually really amazing. The AI interface is impressive; recognising scenery in less than a second and adjusting the photos as a response. I was lucky enough to test my friends P20 pro and i did compare the two phones; while the p20 had darker blacks and more saturation, the P20 consistently took better photos and didn't struggle with depth. Of course, it couldn't handle as much zoom but there was reasonable clarity and frankly as a camera phone enthusiast, i was extremely happy (i actually returned the galaxy note 9 because i thought the camera zoom and clarity was bad...i'm very picky).Oh and night mode...i'm actually very surprised. It's pretty damn good. It takes about 4 seconds to snap a photo but the quality you get out of it is much better than any non-huawei device that i have used. This review is focused on the average consumer. Looks, battery, camera, performance are the things that sit close to my heart and i urge anyone reading this review to consider this device. It really is an amazing performer and while it is around a year old, it feels just as mid-tier flagship as the current phones being released now.

Battery woes
Really good phone, however battery life was woeful even on power saving settings could not get through a day without charging twice even with average use.

Awful!!!
Bought this on behalf of my Grandad who has always had a Huawei phone but an older version. His screen cracked on his last phone, so he was looking for a newer version of what he had and we chose this one.We shouldn’t have bothered! His old one with a cracked screen works 100 times better than this one. It is SO SLOW. On the day I visited him to check it (after he had mentioned it didn’t seem right), I couldn’t do anything with it. The screen stopped responding and I couldn’t even turn it off.If I could give zero stars, I would!!! Do not recommend at all!!!

So far... this is a great purchase
Having come from many years of being a Samsung galaxy note user. I look heavily into the most phones available being aware of the important features that I wanted from my next phone.Spoiler alert: I like it. I really like it. I would easily recommend this to anyone who wants a decent phone I this sub £400 price range but does not want to spend extra ££££ for minimal improvements on screen and camera.Pictures:I absolutely love the photos that come from this phone.Battery life: Phenomenal. 1.5 days nearly 2 at a push.User interface: Takes some getting used to but not much different from other androids devices. Nova launcher can be used if you really want something you're used.Build quality: Solid, it has some weight to it. Heavier than my old note 4.Other good points:Fingerprint read is lightning fast and accurate.Night mode all the way for shooting still subjects.Slow mo video is greatIssues:- No 3.5mm input 🙄 (I knew before buying)- Sound volume from device is not as loud as I'd like but that could be down to the headphones they supply. Speaker is loud which is great.- Face recognition is not as secure as other phones. Only has the 1 front facing camera. If you can live with the above features and minor niggles, you'll enjoy this purchase.

Great phone, easy transition from iPhone
Moved from an ipgone 6 to this, what a jump. Amazing battery life, great build quality, and for the price it really is top notch, wouldn't have been able to get an iphone as good for twice the money. Really great option if you want something that's not the absolute best in terms of price point but still a really really solid option.

Fingerprint Scanner Issue
Purchased end of Nov 18, fingerprint scanner was broken in Feb 19. Sent for repair to Huawei and they 'fixed' it. Another 2 months and then the same issue yet again. It is one of the main features for unlocking apps and all banking apps use fingerprint permissions. Phone itself is very good quality but annoying to be going back and forth getting repairs on a £400 phone that's only 3 months old. If this fault develops get a refund immediately - the process has been annoying despite efforts from Huawei.

Camera is worse than I thought.
I bought it for my wife. She is all about taking pictures. And really envious about my Pixel 2XL. So I read tons of reviews and apparently this makes better pics than Pixel.Maybe on paper. The pics we took looked stunning on screen. To a point I started doubting my pixel. However, when transferred to a PC and printed - pixel clearly wins.Anyway - the rest of the phone is what you would expect in 2018. Great. Great build quality, nice looks, good performance. Everything you would want - this phone has it.So yeah. GJ Huawei.

Great buy! Well worth the money
Was dubious about going android from IPhone, not worth worrying about at all this phone is so easy to use! Battery last all day from the morning with lots of usage. It comes with a super fast charger that charges the phone fully in around 30 mins (if that) well worth the money and I'll not be going back to iPhone again!
