great mat, named "pro" for a reason.
I know it sounds very amateurish to blame a mat for stuff we cannot do, but then, the three practices I've had with this mat were far superior to the ones I had with my old travel manduka or the cheap mats from the studio, as if it enabled me to sink deeper in a pose, or perform my transitions with more support (I'm an intermediate to experienced practitioner, and I practice yoga daily). This mat is absolutely perfect, it has a good balance between cushioning and stability/floor presence; and of great grip but allowing you to slide when you need to. I'm very happy with this purchase, and the colour is beautiful and relaxing: I really do hope it lasts for life, as promised.I read a lot of comments on the mat being heavy – this is true, but think about the effort of carrying it around as part of your practice! – and slippery. To the second comment, it is VERY IMPORTANT to follow the breaking in instructions and giving it a salt scrub before the first use, and also knowing that, like every professional equipment (ballet shoes, sports gloves, martial arts protection, etc.), this mat requires preparation, care, and it will adapt to you with the constant use. I would not recommend this for people starting yoga now, or for people who are not deeply committed to their practice.

this is a great yoga mat
Having had a cheap yoga mat most of my life I had no idea how big the market was for an upgrade. I was a bit overwhelmed with it all. Just google yoga mat and see what comes up. So hopefully this helps someone save some time. Here's what I've found to be true- 1. it does not have a chemical smell 2. it is a bit slippery in the beginning but true to what the manufacturer states, it goes away 3. 71" is a great size for me and 6ft1 4. the overall feeling is of quality and durability. I do yoga everyday and it feels like this mat is going to go the distance with my practice. Highly recommended.

VERY SLIPPERY, BUT
When it first arrived it felt OK, but when your hands started to get a bit sweaty, the rubber surface became very slippery. Loved the comfortable feel, but was about to send it back, then decided to look on YouTube for any comments and found lots of video's (including from Manduka) talking about having to break it in, by not only using it but doing a salt rub treatment to help speed things up. Well have tried this and it is much improved, there is still some break-in required, but now have a good feeling that it is going to work, as a good "sticky" feeling is starting to come through. After more use, I'll update this review. The only other negative point is my wife finds it very heavy to carry to the gym, it will end up costing me the price of a shoulder carry bag in the coming weeks.Positives. Very good length (216 cm), very luxurious feel and feels like it will last the test of time.Negatives. Very expensive, quite heavy and very slippery when new, having to rub course salt into it and leaving it in full sun for 24 hours seems like a lot of effort for a Yoga mat in this price range.

Absolutely love this mat! Glad I bought it.
I love my mat. It did not smell too bad and in no way triggered my asthma, something I was worried about from reviews. Just let it lie open and it will clear up soon. It feels very firm to stand on and my husband thought it was rock hard, he does not use yoga mats of any kind, so has no comparison to go by. However, when I lie on my side (hips) or kneel with the knee behind me I have no pain and can perform poses without discomfort for the first time ever! I can do upward dog without the tops of my feet / toes hurting. So highly recommended. I have actually been doing jumps as well which I normally avoid due to lack of mat stability. This mat will not budge.Yes, the mat was slippery when new, I scrubbed away at it with sea salt for half an hour wearing thick gloves and with good TV in the background. It has been much better and is softening up with every use. I use a folded up equa mat towel that I pull down when I start to sweat/experience slipperiness and it seems less needed with every practice. I was thinking of buying a prolite in the future for ease of travel but right now I do not want to miss this mat ever again. It is that good. Go for it, you might love it like me or else it should sell well on ebay as a used product. :)Happy Practising!

Manduka pro yoga mat, very impressed!!!
Was recommended this mat over other professional yoga mats by my very skilled and advanced yoga teacher. She had tried other more expensive brands, and wasn’t impressed with them. As said by other people mat was a little slippy at first, the recommended sea salt helps, there seems to be some sort of coating on the surface which disappears over time and with use, it’s taken 2 weeks for mine to bed in with use 3 times a week. Now it has fantastic grip and the comfort is brilliant. I no longer need 2 mats and hardly need to use my foam knee pads. I might not be the best at yoga but this mat helps me achieve the next level, it is not too thick like some, but just perfect to feel the ground for balances.Down sides as said by other reviews it needs bedding in from new, and little bit heavy if u travel far carrying it.Highly recommended by my yoga teacher and now myself.

Takes a while to warm up
I love this mat. It replaced one that I had had for over ten years which was so tatty and I did not feel at all at home with this new one to start with. The problem is that when doing mat work lying down it is so cold so to meditate in savasana is not what it used to be on my old one. I put a towel underneath me now. However the quality is good, I don't slip at all and it is a very good length.

Excelente calidad
Lo ordene hace un mes y medio y es un gran tapete. Solamente que las primeras veces que lo usé me resbalaba mucho pero con el tiempo va mejorando el agarre

Beautiful mat - not hard to break in
I have to admit I was initially SO worried about this mat due to everyone comparing it to an ice rink. I’m a sweaty yogi and my old mat was a beat up lulu I held on too for too long. I decided on the manduka pro for 2 reasons 1. Longevity; 2. Hygiene. I don’t want to replace my mat every 4 years, and the closer cell technology was appealing as my lulu got pretty gross.Upon getting it, yes it was slippery. But I took a hard bristle brush and some degrease dish soap, scrubbed the hell out of it, hosed it off, then scrubbed with a dry towel. It’s just as sticky if not stickier than my lulu now.I didn’t want to do the salt method as it sounded long, messy and I’d have to buy the salt. I read this method worked for others, and it definitely does. Literally 30 min of work saved me a lengthy break in process. Some might think that’s ridiculous for a 180 dollar mat, but it’s worth it if I won’t have to replace this bad boy for a decade or more!On to the actual product: thick, heavy duty, and it will cushion my knees during practice nicely. Downward dog - no slippage (and I’m bad for that). Only downside are the dark, muted colours and lack of designs. They have some on their website a little nicer, but 204 pre tax was a bit much for my needs. Either way nice mat, and won’t deduct stars for a design I knowingly purchased. If you like a flashier mat , don’t want to do a break in process, or don’t mind replacing a mat every 3-4 years, this probably isn’t your mat (still love lulus!). Otherwise if you value longevity I would recommend this beast

Me encantó
