A physically smaller version of The Hobbit than many others but very nicely put together. The CD of Tolkien himself reading parts is interesting and the included maps well produced. The book is nicely printed on high quality paper.Everything is contained in a nice, sturdy sleeve. My Daughters 6th edition of this book and very much loved. In pride of place on her expanding book shelf of Tolkien publications.

This edition is absolutely beautiful.The lenticular image on the box makes it feel as if you're heading towards the Lonely Mountain regardless of where you are looking at it from. The CD contains four recordings, three of them rare, of Tolkien reading from the first, second and fifth chapters of the book.The box also contains Thror's Map as Tolkien originally wanted it to be printed, so that if you hold it up to the light you can see the Moon Runes; a commemorative booklet that covers the history of The Hobbit, its publication and later editions, as well as the poem The Hoard and Tolkien's lecture on dragons from 1938, reproduced in full for the first time, and of course the book as it was originally published with the dust jacket in black, green, blue and white, and without the changes that were later made to chapter five.Not only are original first editions of The Hobbit hard to find, but they are very expensive to purchase because of the small number of copies that was printed, but this gift set makes it possible for those who love the book to get their hands on what was a rare version of the text at a cheaper price, with the added items that I've mentioned above.The delivery was done faster than estimated, and all in all I consider this an extraordinary purchase for oneself, if you are a Tolkien fan, as well as a beautiful gift for the Tolkien fans in your life.

The Hobbit is a brilliant story for all ages that sets your imagination free. This hardback edition is superbly bound with a quality that befits the author and his tale. The illustrations are divine and a suitable companion to the text.I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys an adventurous tale are prepared to get lost in it. 5 Stars with no hesitation.

This is a gorgeous copy of The Hobbit! It will be getting pride of place on the bookshelf.

Ever since I first read The Hobbit at school, sixty years ago, it has been my all-time favourite book. Even though I know the story, and whole pages of dialogue and description inside out, I still get immense enjoyment when I re-read it (every two years). Long have I wanted to own the book in its original dustcover - illustrated by Tolkein himself - but the silly prices of early editions have always put me off. Now I have this deluxe edition (a birthday gift from my partner, Jane) and I couldn't be more pleased. I haven't been allowed to unwrap it yet (my birthday isn't for another three weeks) but I know it is something really special - and it's in a facsimilie of the original cover. Enough said!

I really liked this facsimile edition to celebrate JRR Tolkien's the Hobbit. You get an exact copy of the novel when it was first published by Unwen Allen in 1937. Reading it was no different from the modern reprints. In addition, you get a map of Middle Earth, a CD with recordings of Tolkien reading excerpts from the novel too. This is an excellent addition to have in your collection, and for all fans of Tolkien.

Just loved the item at first sight!! The rigid slipcase in which the gift set is contained arrived just a little bumped at the bottom, but despite that small fault everything else is just perfect! It's simply more than I expected: from the map to the booklet illustrating the editorial process of "The Hobbit", from the book to the CD, everything looks so classy.Moreover the lenticular cover makes of it an interesting ornament to show off as well! Amazing product which turned out to be just a surprise, even though I already knew what it should have contained. Highly recommended! 👌🏻

I bought this book to slowly learn Spanish in a fun way. So far, so good.

I was surprised to see it so accurate to the actual 1st edition print. They even managed to add the misspelled “Dodgoson” on the back of the dust cover, which I found very impressive. I’ve only read 3 chapters so far and it’s amazing! Every little detail they added to this book is like the 1st print from the 30’s. Awesome!

Anche motivata da un adeguato sconto presente sulla piattaforma, ho acquistato il cofanetto e ora, a distanza di qualche mese dall'acquisto, non me ne pento affatto!Il cofanetto è una gift set edition realizzata in occasione dei 70 anni dalla pubblicazione dello Hobbit.Il cofanetto che contiene il set è solido, ben realizzato, con colori sgargianti e con un disegno lenticolare raffigurante la Montagna Solitaria (a opera di Tolkien, N.d.A.)All'interno troviamo un booklet commemorativo a opera di Christiana Scull & Wayne G. Hammond (i curatori, tra l'altro, dello splendido volume "L'Arte di J. R. R. Tolkien, N.d.A.), il facsimile della mappa di Thror e un CD che contiene gli stralci di una registrazione di Tolkien stesso, mentre legge alcune parti dello Hobbit (tra le quali, la canzone "Bilbo Baggins hates".Ma è il facsimile della prima edizione del romanzo il protagonista di questo cofanetto: trattasi di un volume realizzato sull'impronta della prima edizione (oggi venduta a prezzi folli), comprensiva del celeberrimo quinto capitolo, "Indovinelli nell'oscurità", che qui si presenta nella versione precedente il rimaneggiamento di Tolkien avvenuto negli anni di stesura del Signore degli Anelli. Il volume si presenta con tutte le caratteristiche della prima edizione, con una sovraccoperta di ottima fattura, pagine d'un bianco immacolato, e disegni a opera dell'autore stesso (nelle versioni Bompiani, quelle più comuni nelle librerie, sono presenti invece i disegni di Alan Lee, N.d.A.).Dunque, che dire di più?
