Adapted from the novel by C.S. Forester, The African Queen (1951) directed by John Huston stars Humphrey Bogart in his Academy Award-winning portrayal of Charlie Allnut, the slovenly, gin-swilling captain of a tramp steamer called the African Queen, which ships supplies to small EastAfrican villages during World War I. Katharine Hepburn plays Rose Sayer, the maiden-lady sister of a prim British missionary (Robert Morley). When invading Germans kill the missionary and level the village, Allnut offers to take Rose back to civilization. She can't tolerate his drinking or bad manners; he isn't crazy about her imperious, judgmental attitude. However, it does not take long before their passionate dislike turns to love. Together the disparate duo work to ensure their survival on the treacherous waters and devise an ingenious way to destroy a German gunboat. Along with masterful direction from John Huston, the wonderful script makes this a rare treat indeed. Value for money.
What can I say? If you're a Bogey fan of a film noir fanatic, it's a must.

Terrific!
When you are a big fan of someone it's often with trepidation I approach a biography about them. As a big fan of Bogie I can thoroughly recommend this film. It has all the basic facts but also some wonderful insights from the man himself and those closest to him. If this is any guide, and I hope this doesn't descend to cliché, I came away believing I understood more about the person and the times he inhabited than the movie myth.

A must for HB fans
Followers and fans of HB will probably know the detail but it’s still good to see it all in a smart movie and narrated with HB’s own words. Even if you are not a fan, it’s still great to watch and to the capture a great period of Hollywood history

Bogart’s life history
I liked “Bogart life comes in flashes” as it gave more of his background that I never heard before, as a Humphrey Bogart fan I can watch this over and over again!
