Transparent silicone baked on coating
The manufacturer added a silicone coating to the that will flake off but is very difficult to remove. I'm guessing the manufacturer added the coating to prevent the iron from rusting during shipping. I'd rather receive a rusted wok than a rust-proof coating that is difficult to remove.
