These are great
So a little context. My mom has Resound hearing aids. She’s in that 2 year gap between warranty expiration and insurance eligibility for a new set. Bought this as plan B if one is lost or dies, but it is not collecting dust as I had envisioned. She is choosing to wear these every other day. In order to set this up you must use a smart phone, but you don’t need the smart phone after that (we used mine). These are very similar to her old hearing aids and she is able to use and maintain them on her own. There is a manual button to adjust the sound so you don’t need the smart phone beyond the initial set up. There is a slightly different sound quality (not worse, just different) so be prepared for an adjustment period of a couple days until you figure out the levels. Setup took roughly 2 hours, spread over 3 days. They are rechargeable which is great, but also they recharge in the case. The magnets in the case cause them to snap into place for recharging, so they are far less likely to get lost. We wondered what the large tan disks were in this set. They are a drying tablet to remove moisture from the device. The extra domes and wax guards are nice to have. There is an assortment of sizes and both open and closed dome shapes which affect sound quality so try both if you’re not sure. These are digital hearing aids. There is a tab on the battery that you need to remove before you charge the device, and you have to charge it 4 hours before you set it up. If you don’t remove the battery tab before you charge the device, only 1 hearing aid will charge.

The wires are too short.
I like the sound reproduction. The app is kind of fluky as it doesn't want to connect to my S23 unless I have just taken them out of the charger. It comes with two wire sizes, both of which were too small. I was able to have them send me a larger wire size (#3)at no charge, but these barely fit as they keep coming out from talking or eating. I may end up returning them, because I don't think they make longer wires for these hearing aids. Too bad...

Maybe not for your mama
My mother, 96 years old , recently got these, and while they are really great when they work, getting them connected is frequently a pain. For no reason that we can figure out, they just won’t. Sometimes if she starts over, putting them back in the case and so on, then they connect. Sometimes. We’ve gone through all the trouble shooting directions and even been on hold with customer support, when boom! They connected. So: while my mama is not devoid of tech skills, these are a bit too much. Most elderly people would be totally frustrated with the glitchiness. I would give them a pass and go for something less maddening.
