Reet petite
This is the largest of the Spyderco Bug range, but it’s still very dinky – only 72mm long closed, and with a blade length of 53mm (just over 2”). This would make an ideal EDC (everyday carry) knife for several reasons. For starters, the blade is less than 3” long, and it’s non-locking, making it perfectly legal for EDC in the UK. It’s also very slim and light (39.5g), meaning you’ll hardly know it’s there in your pocket or on your keyring until you need it. The all-stainless construction means there are no plastic scales to get damaged or broken, and the brushed finish should keep its looks for a long time. The handle is comfortable to hold, with well designed finger grooves giving a secure grip. The hole in the blade to aid opening is equally suitable for left- or right-handed use, which is nice for us lefties. When opened, the blade snaps positively into place, though without locking, meaning it’s unlikely to accidentally close on your fingers – which is just as well, since it’s absolutely scary sharp, with a full flat grind and a narrow point. There’s a hole for keyring attachment, or for adding a lanyard to make the knife easier to fish out of your pocket. The Spyderco logo is laser etched into the handle (the other side is blank, and ideal for adding some personalisation), and the knife comes nicely presented in a gift box. Yes, the Grasshopper is relatively expensive for a small single-blade pocket knife, but it’s a Spyderco – one of the world’s leading knife brands – and it’s a class act all the way.

Spyderco Grasshopper.
I've been wanting to purchase a Spyderco knife for a long time now, the reviews are always great from what I have seen and this knife (Spyderco Grasshopper C138P) is no exception to that rule!Firstly, the item was shipped much faster than expected: delivered within three days, a noticeable three days before suggested delivery date. This was standard shipping too! The knife comes in a black collectors box (as seen in the photos).Construction~The knife is made entirely out of stainless steel, made in China but do not be put off by this! The item feels very well made indeed: no side-to-side movement, rough edges etc. Plus the knife looks gorgeous. Take note, the blade and handle are very easily scratched because of the materials used. The steel in which the blade is made of (Cr13 MoV) may not be the top of the line steel, but for a smaller pocket knife it really doesn't make much difference. Some knife fanatics may disagree with me here, saying 'the steel used on the blade is the most important thing!' but let me assure you, this blade will do everything your day-to-day needs ask of it. The edge retention (ability to maintain a sharp, working edge) is good, but it will dull after prolonged every day use. However, because of the softer steel used it makes sharpening a lot easier. The knife is a slip joint, meaning that the blade does not lock into place when opened; the blade is kept open by pressure being applied to the back of the blade, located internally. The pressure applied to keep the blade open and useable is about as good as it's going to get for a slip joint; the blade is very unlikely to close on you during use. Due to the strength of the pressure the knife cannot be opened one-handed. No big deal. Conclusion~Fast shipping +Great looking +Well constructed +Easy to sharpen +Keeps an edge +Won't close on you easily while in use +Scratches easily -5/5 rating. If you are thinking of purchasing this item then do it. You will NOT be disappointed.

My first "proper" knife...
The first thing to point out is that this knife is fully UK legal and you should have no issues with the police if you use this responsibly. I wanted a knife that would be useful around the house but that I could also use in public without finding myself in trouble with the police and this fit the bill perfectly. The Spyderco quality is 100% there and it's a very well thought out little blade. It came razor sharp out of the box and was actually smaller than I was expecting but this was by no means a bad thing. It's small enough to be non-threatening to people if you use it in public and also fits quite nicely on a key ring as well. This little knife, which is the bigger of three similar blades, has stood up to everything I've thrown at it, although I must admit that it will never see any extremely heavy punishment. It maintains an edge fairly well and is really easy to sharpen back up again. All in all it's a brilliant little knife and I would recommend it to anyone!

... first knife I've ever owned and I am very pleased overall. I know very little about knives
It's the first knife I've ever owned and I am very pleased overall. I know very little about knives, but did do some basic research and had this recommended to me. It's very small and handy, possibly too small if you have large hands! Mine are fairly small for a man and the grip is just about comfortable. The blade is good quality and came 'shaving sharp'. I bought it for general tasks and is an effective cutter. It is also UK legal which was important to me. (no locking blade, less than 3.5 inch.

Lovely pocket knife!
Small lightweight, quality, and very useful item to carry. Non-lockable and totally legal... Great in the hand and is razor-sharp. I had one before for years but misplaced it. It feels like driving without a seatbelt not having it. All is good now! Can't recommend it enough!!
