Glad that it still is the quality that I am used to from Stanley

This is a poor quality version on the No.4 Smoothing plane. The frog is a cheap casting, the handle is plastic and there are 2 adjuster screws been left out on this model. The overall appearance is rough and ragged. It is also badly packages. On stripping it down, I found the iron is of poor quality and the edge is no where near square. So major surgery is required to get it in shape. I would have returned it but have already started to get into working order. Stanley had a world reputation for being the best in its field for hand tools. In my opinion, they have given up on quality for profit.

The handyman plane comes in a plastic package which makes it seem like a poor tool in my opinion. The plane comes with all the defects common of these tools when they are new. The lower part of the body is not flat and it requires a lot of grinding before you can have the start middle and back of the plane in one line. the spor where the frog is mounted is covered by the black paint used on the plane...which means filing is required to be able to properly mount the frog. The frog itself is also fully painted so filing is really needed in order to have the blade rest in an adequate position. Basically this tool needs a ton of tuning before use. Moreover the blade is supplied with an angle that is different from the recommended in the instructions so it will be necessary to hone it to the recommended angle.Once the tune up process is complete, the plane works really well. The blade is made from good steel and keeps the edge really well.

I bought this plane because of its name, BIG MISTAKE, because on adjusting the blade the thread stripped on the “high impact polystyrene knob” I’ve had a footprint one for 50 years and it still works as sweet as a nut, Polystyrene is a fancy name for plastic and that’s all it is, I should have bought one with a steel or brass knob. Stanley could do, and should do, better.

No muy bueno, la cuña que sujeta la cuchilla viene bastante romo y hace que la viruta se clave entre la cuchilla y la cuña,. Y es complicado sacar una tira de viruta fina y larga

Mi serviva una pialla per lisciare piani lunghi ed ho optato per questa fidandomi del marchio. La Lama è buona una volta affilata e taglia bene anche se l'acciaio non è dei più duri. Buona la superficie di appoggio: planare e ortogonale ai fianchi. Note dolenti: impugnatura in plastica con gioco sulla base: perno troppo lungo. Eccentrico di comando della lama in metallo bianco (fragilissimo) e con evidenti giochi laterali. Frog (ossia il ferro di appoggio che presenta la Lama sulla feritoia) stortissimo e per me difficilmente rettificabile. Per tenere la Lama dritta devo spostare la leva di regolazione tutta da un lato.Deludente anche per un prodotto di fascia economica per il quale almeno mi sarei aspettato che la struttura interna fosse costruita con maggiore cura. Sto valutando se restituire il prodotto.

Durchaus im Bewusstsein des günstigen Preises ist dieser Hobel samt Verpackung; Lieferzustand und kaum lesbarem Handzettel besonders lieblos gefertigt. Trotz Nacharbeiten der Sohle, und Schärfen der Hobelklinge auf der Tormek, kein brauchbares Hobelresultat. Dass so ein Produkt unter dem Namen "Stanley" läuft verstehe ich nicht. Produkte dieser Marke werde ich in Zukunft meiden; zum Glück gibt es ja genügend Alternativen.

J'ai pu utiliser ce rabot dès sa livraison, le réglage et l'affutage de la lame étaient parfait.

Acheté pour les petits travaux et les champs.J'ai longuement hésité du fait des avis mitigés voire vraiment négatifs, que finalement je ne comprends pas. Peut-être ai-je eu de la chance, mais mon rabot est quasiment plan, fer affuté et capable de sortir des copeaux immédiatement (et c'est encore mieux après affutage). Certes le mécanisme n'a rien à voir avec les "Sweet Heart" de Stanley mais pour quelque dizaines d'euros il est toujours à portée de la main pour les petites bricoles, et évite de sortir le N°4 !
