Awesome kit!
I've been using this electronic drum kit for almost 5 years now. I have used it mostly for practice but I have used it for a few gigs. It performs flawlessly! Fully programmable. Great sounding! Never missed a hit. Highly recommended!

A Bargain But Please Read!
I am 62 and decided to learn to play drums as a result of the sheer boredom during Corona. This kit is absolutely fantastic and you cannot beat the price. Although it is geared to entry-level players, it will be fine for those that can already play. The set was simple to assemble and get up and running. Take your time though and learn what goes into these wonders as well as adjusting their placement to match you.I took a multi-lesson course for $14.00 on Udemy and was playing decent within a couple of weeks. My only caution is I already have discovered you will need a second crash symbol if you want to play to several rock songs.Luckily, you can purchase an additional cymbal for the kit. However, you must also purchase the Kp65 kickpad plus a pedal to do so. Cost will be around $200.00. You may wish to upgrade before buying the 402K.Yamaha has done a great job here and you will not be disappointed with the sound and build quality.

Don't buy this set
I am a drummer with with 61 years of professional experience. I've had 2 other electronic sets I bought used. I think both were ION sets which I liked. I sold one to a good friend who had a grandchild that wanted drums for Christmas (quiet drum set got it sold) and the other I gave to my Niece's son. Now, I recently bought this Yamaha DTX set (I'm gigging so I don't want to set up my Ludwigs to practice and take them down to gig) and I hate the set. The set up is all wrong! The placement of cymbal holders was so bad, I bought 3 cymbal stands so I could get them to the positions I use on my '68 Ludwigs. The drum key that came with this set IS NOT STANDARD SIZE! When I put my regular drum key on the set to rearrange things, it spun around! The key with the Yamaha set is SMALLER! They don't do this on their regular drums. Why do it on the electronic drums? Also, I use the set-up Buddy Rich used. One mounted tom and 2 floor toms. I had to switch the pads around and still couldn't get the 2nd floor tom in the right place. Not enough length to the frame. The sound of the set is nice. The bass drum pad is made so you can't anchor it to the floor. I have indoor/outdoor carpet in my music room and the BD pad walks away while playing. I had to get heavy duty twine and tie the BD pad to the support posts on the set to keep it in place. The controller STOPS FUNCTIONING in random places. I practice with the metronome feature (which is a plus but most electronic sets have this) and in the middle of an exercise, the controller freezes up. I can't turn it off or resume what I was doing. I have to unplug it and wait 20 seconds before plugging it back in. Today was the last straw. It's done that once or twice in the last couple of days, but IT QUIT 6 TIMES IN 1/2 HOUR!! It's a nuisance to have to stop your exercise to unplug, wait, plug back in.It's partly my fault because I bought it without sitting down to a set to try it out. I just looked online and went by the reviews. My bad. It's a shame, because I was a band director for 30 years, too, and I liked Yamaha band instruments, especially their drums. But this electronic set is not good. Sorry, Yamaha.UPDATE: After contacting Yamaha, I exchanged emails with a Tier 1 fellow named Chris. He told me to submit a video of the unit quitting. With considerable effort, I was able to get the video back to him. A week later, a Tier 2 guy named Isaac called and said they were sending another processor and to put the defective processor in the box with the UPS return label included and send it back.Well, 2 weeks later, a day before leaving for a vacation, an ENTIRE SET OF YAMAHA DTX electronic drums arrived. I emailed them to say this was a mistake. Another Tier 1 guy said that's the way Yamaha does it!!!We continued emailing back and forth with me being adamant I'm not accepting a full drum kit. What the hell do I need 2 drum kits with only 1 working processor??? I did get the return UPS label sent after a while and sent the entire kit back to Yamaha. I'm awaiting their reply.Update: One year later, I'm still stuck with this drum set that is not fundtional. Yamaha has never made this right.

Great transition from acoustic kit
Love this kit. I was able to set it up in minutes without instructions (had watched a few videos ahead of delivery). With use of the 402 Touch App I was able to get the sound of the drums exactly how I wanted them. I'm running the output into my Yamaha mixer/DAW and then to an active speaker. Again, the sound is fantastic! I will have to add the one add-on option and get a crash on the right side. It's strange to only have the one crash unless I make the ride a crash also. It looks like for another $130 I can get that add-on. Too early to truly talk about durability, but it's Yamaha and I have never been disappointed with Yamaha quality. I recommend this kit for anyone...beginner and advanced players wanting the convenience of an e-kit.

Exceptional
Got this kit to replace my acoustic set and gain some room in my office. I was not disappointed in making the switch. The sounds are great. The pads are very responsive. And the set up is simple. I added a crash and switched the position of the ride cymbal to match my set and there were no problems. The kick and hi hat sound great. Couldn't be happier. This kit was recommended by a drummer friend who warned me against buying a cheaper set. After reading reviews on the DTX I felt comfortable buying it and am glad I did. Thanks to Yamaha for designing and offering this great kit.

Awesome drum set even for beginners!
My wife and I ordered these drums for our 8 year old son and he loves them. I set them up and He figured out how to attach them to his drum amp and use all the functions all by himself. My wife loves them because he can also play them with his headphones and they take up way less space than his old standard drum set. The sound quality is also very good. Definitely worth the money spent.

Almost perfect
My son is in his first year of percussion, the training and other things like the app has not only helped him but made it fun. Great kit for beginners! My bonus is he can use a headset so its quite while he practices. Negatives... and the reason for only 4 stars. It came with no sound system to be able to play and hear it! And no head set. So you cannot use it out of the box you have to buy extras to even use it!
