Amazon page quotes the weight as 5.87kg. Is this correct, because a genuine Record no.3 vice is 15kg?
How many mounting holes does this vice (150 mm version) have in the base?

Robust and will last for years
Nice vice at a bargain price, will last for years to come, the photos as many say don’t match and is some what misleading, neither the less, I am happy 😃 with purchase.

Quality Vice
Well made - nice action to the screw. Good size for most workshop applications Well worth paying extra for a Record rather than a far east copy . It will last a lifetime!

Excellant Purchase
Item arrived on time, good price and quality was as expected for an Irwin Record Product.

Okay for the price it's at.
Broke my very old No.6 and needed a replacement but was feeling cheap, this little jobby has been in my shed a few years now and it's perfectly okay at the price I paid and still going strong, but the close is not as smooth, nor is the casting quite as good on the whole (if I were to be picky). Wish i'd just spent more on a good second hand engineers vice really!

Buy with caution
To be honest, it appears to be second hand. The packaging was not great, and on the left side mount of the vice, it looks like it has been cut/chipped (see attached pictures of both sides for comparison) I needed the vice quite desperately, and it has mounted up ok and operates okOn a positive it arrived 2 days earlier than expected.

Cheap and nasty in all honesty.
You may be disappointed with this vice made by Irwin Record. A new 3 inch jaw width purchased here. Very sloppy fits all round. Moving jaw in static body very loose, as is the spindle in the nut and moving jaw. Having cleaned all the lose paint and muck out of the moving parts it now sounds much better. Yes it will do the job but if you are looking for a precision made vice with no slop, don't buy this. For just under £28-00 including postage, I cannot complain as I could not make one myself for less, or even anywhere near that. As I said before, it will do the job. Having added some brass shim, the slop has gone. Not pretty but a better job now.

I know because I weighed it on digital scales. This new version is less substantial, for example the fixing holes are open whereas in the original the base is wider and encloses the holes. I wouldn't be surprised if there are some other cutbacks as well. Amazon currently states 500g for this which is nonsense, presumably they weighed it near the Moon! If 'all other outlets' say 12.5 lbs they should probably be saying 12.5 kg, or they are quoting the mass of a smaller vice in the range. This vice is in the mechanics heavy duty range. If this vice is supposed to be the modern version of the No 3 there is no way a vice of this size could have a mass of 5.87 kg. Machine Mart is wrong but not that wrong, they probably got data from the last century."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"How many mounting holes does this vice (150 mm version) have in the base?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"4"}}]}]}
