Makes the most fine shaved ice!
I first came across this shaved ice machine when I was in Japan so I wanted to get it once I moved back to LA and man, I'm so glad I did! It makes the most perfect shaved ice. The recipes that came with the recipe book weren't all that great but if you just want to make plane old shaved ice, this is definitely the product to buy. We've used it every day this summer!

Powdery snow ice but there are limitations to consider
Unlike other shaved ice machines which produce ice "pebbles", this machine can achieve the powdery shaved ice like what you expect from a good Japanese Kakigori. The setup and operation are rather easy even if you don't understand the Japanese manual. I think the two major limitations of this machine are (1) the single full ice mold and (2) the small servings. The package provides only one single full ice mold and 2 sets of half ice molds. Practically, the full mold is the only one that works reliably. I understand that additional molds can only be purchased at the Japanese Amazon website and this is not ideal. The other reason for the small serving is that the machine cannot shave the entire ice block. About 20% of the original ice block remains in the machine that cannot be utilized. So, one has to be diligent in making ice blocks continuously and store them for later use. Otherwise, this machine is good in terms of producing powdery shaved ice.

The best ice shaver for home, ever!
I simply love the fine powdery texture of the shaved ice. It is ideal for the Korean bingsu, Singapore chendol! We have used it 3 times. Twice for groups of 6 and more. As suggested by another reviewer, I freeze multiple ice molds and store them in a ziplog bag. I loved the half size mold too. But two half size blocks together and it worked just as well.Really it is not too difficult to figure out how to use this machine (I do not read Japanese). The pictures in the Japanese manual really helped and the rest of it is common sense to use any appliance.

easy to use
Everything is good in this product except no English instruction in it. I used pictures to get the instruction.

This came in handy when I was craving shaved ice treats. Works well. The containers to keep the ice in are too small, Otherwise, this works as intended!

Great, but proprietary ice molds could make it impractical
This makes Kakigori very well. However, it can make only 2 small servings with the single ice mold it comes with. Granted, it does come with 4 additional half ice molds, but if you want to have a kakigori party, you’ll need more.Fortunately, Amazon.co.jp has extra molds.https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/aw/d/B07B8Z6KDT/ref=oh_aui_i_d_old_o0_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1You can set up an account and have the molds sent to a US address, but the shipping may be more expensive than the molds.
