You CAN use this for sketching, but it is MEANT for water color. The paper weight - guessing 140lb. It does not warp. The book lays flat when fully opened for landscape. It will fit in the average shirt pocket. Well made. Has a book marker and a elastic band to keep the other pages out of the way. The pages are perforated and the other two corners are rounded. It has a handy pocket to store your finished work or you can just leave them in the book. You can paint on both sides of the textured paper without bleed through. Expect to pay more for real water color paper rather than a book that implies "Sure, you CAN use it for water color". This one is made for water color and a good value for your money. We use ours to capture the moment- its not finished art. We've found that taking the time for a quick sketch while on a trail resting on a rock or fallen tree is far better memory than snapping a photo. I will order again.

Great quality paper for traveling quick sketches, I block in my scene or project, then watercolor in hotel room.

I got this little sketch book for travel and don’t expect to do stellar works of art in it. So I was OK with getting a low cotton content paper. This is similar to Fabriano student grade paper, which is also 25% cotton. There is a definite repeated texture (little squares) on the paper as is mentioned by another reviewer. The paint tends to sit on top of the paper, so if you are a person who doesn’t mind inconsistencies in color as you lay it down, you will be OK with this paper. It is a perfect size and fits in my travel pouch. I would not buy the larger sketch books for any serious painting. I like the Etchr sketchbooks - including the “original” Etchr sketchbooks that Amazon sells - for more involved watercolor painting. They are twice the price. So for on the go, this little book is just fine. (The painting in the photo was just a quick sketch to try out the paper and used only two colors. So it’s not really a good indication of the range of the paper.)

Buttery watercolor paper in a sturdy, cute binding that I can toss in my bag with my travel paints. Great for if you want to get out of the house and paint! 5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Perfect for travel! I take this with me along with my Windsor newton travel water color set for whenever the occasion calls! I love being able to sit down and paint for an hour or so and have a collection! On warm days the paint dries quickly but still works well if the wet on wet technique is desired! Thick paper, easy to work with and cute size!

I am so glad I got this before my trip this year. It is small enough to put into a purse. This is great because it’s handy for anytime you see something you want to capture in a painting . The paper itself is very good quality and watercolor paint sits very well on it. I definitely recommend this. Including just a really quick sketch I did in the botanical garden in Naples, Florida.
