A very interesting pu-erh . . .
I received a free sample of this tea. The ripened pu-erh tea leaves were chopped and enclosed in dried mandarin orange rinds. The dry tea leaves did not have much of an aroma. I brewed the tea per the instructions: 4 minutes @ 212℉.The following is my opinion of this tea's characteristics. The wet tea leaves have an earthy fragrance like a forest floor. The liquor is a clear dark red color. The initial tasting reminded me of the early simmering broth of dried mushrooms. After a few minutes, the flavor evolved into what I expected from a tea grown in the Yunnan province. The orange rind provided a hint of citrus aftertaste. This is more of a relaxing tea since it has very little caffeine. If you are not familiar with pu-erh teas, you may want to start with a raw pu-erh which can be less assertive in flavor than ripened pu-erh.
