Syd Fields: screenwriting hero
William Goldman it was, I think, who wrote regarding screenplays, 'nobody knows anything about anything.' The trouble with Syd Fields books is that he thinks he does know it all. When one witnesses the high percentage of formula-written movies that come out of Hollywood, all cut by an editor with the shakes, and all cliche-ridden and predictable, I suppose one has to lay much of the blame at the door of Mr. Fields and other so-called experts like him. When one considers that films like Casablanca and Citizen Kane were written on the hoof, being put together on each shooting day by the on-the-spot team, these fancy, detailed exercises such as Screenwriter's Problem Solver seem somewhat superfluous.

Excellent
Very fast delivery but although advertised as being used/second hand etc., the copy arrived as if totally new.Extremely pleased.

A good starter screen writing handbook
Basic but helpful. A good starter screen writing handbook. A little bit more erotica would be good

Helpful
Great friend for the rewrite process. I wish Syd Field did not include so much of his voice, could have been more mechanical, but regardless, I find it useful.
