Top of its class. See clearly again!
I have not had a smooth adjustment to my changing eyesight. After sitting down and putting a few hours in on a new cross-stitching kit, the futility of the task was apparent. I swallowed my pride, and ordered this lamp.STYLEThe champagne finish is attractive, though with its three octopus arms, I cannot go as far as to call it stylish. However, it is the most attractive version of what it is. I also liked the idea of it being convertible to table top or clip on, should my circumstances change. It does require a nut and bolt change to switch, so I would not make the conversion daily, but should I finish my front-of-the-TV stitching task and want to use the lamp elsewhere, I can do that.ARM QUALITY AND ADJUSTABILITYThe arms need to be mentioned separately because they are one of the best features of this lamp! The arms are covered in smooth, gray, like a velvety silicon-ish material that is awesome. It feels nice to the touch, it doesn't collect dust or gunk (like goosenecks) and it makes the overall aesthetics of the lamp much more appealing. The arms feel soft to bend (are infinitely adjustable and can hold even small micro-adjustments), but then stay put and hold where you want them. Moreover, you can raise and lower the arm of the lamp (in order to stand up if it is close to your work) without re-adjusting the angle. I have found I can get up and down several times and not need to readjust the arm.ARM QUANTITYI did not think I needed a three-armed lamp. I was wrong. Clipping my pattern (or whatever) on the clip arm holds it up to eye level, saving my neck. It also holds it under the light, making it far easier to see. I didn't think about either of these things, but I'm glad I have the clip.ACCESSORY PLUGYou can see from my photo that the lamp has an accessory plug. I didn't notice that on the product description and didn't think I would need one, but it enables me to easily charge my phone or other device through the lamp itself without bending down to the outlet which is behind the couch. That would be essential for someone that is running their device while they are crafting (listening to music, making calls, etc.)BRIGHTNESS and MAGNIFICATIONI LOVE that this has a light on the main bar and a SECOND light on the magnifying ring itself! (Operated by independent switches for more control.) I don't think this is common in other lamps I was considering, and it is such a great feature. Moreover, it is very targeted light. My son and I can watch movies together with the overhead room lights completely off, and I still have enough light to stitch-n-watch. Since the lamp targets light just on me and my work area (my lap), no glare is throw on the TV so it doesn't affect his movie experience. Re. magnification, the diopter numbers didn't mean anything to me, but the lens is the perfect amount for all small work, and it has an inset bubble on a corner of the main lens with a stronger amount of magnification which turns out to work especially well for threading needles and other super-up-close needs.DURABILITYI took a star off for durability because these lamps (when configured as a floor lamp), as with ANY floor lamp with both a long spine and long octopus arms are wobbly (because, physics). However, it needs to be said that this lamp is well made, has a solid and heavy base, and seems to be top of its class. (My other OTT light is 20+ years old!) However, it also is a little teetery (when configured as a floor lamp). To combat that, I have also pushed the heavy base under the side of the couch because my new high pile carpet isn't giving it the best foundation to work with. (The base itself is about 2.5" tall if you want to measure your couch clearance. Most will allow it, I imagine.) If I put a 12x12 patio tile down on top of the carpet, it would give it a larger, more stable, and inflexible base which would further reduce teetering, but this is working well as is.This lamp has a higher price point than some others I considered, but has distinctive quality and features that has endeared me to it. I didn't even want a granny lamp, wasn't ready to admit that I needed one, but this has made my small hand work infinitely more relaxing and pleasurable. It does its job flawlessly, allowing me to do mine.

Great purchase!
Light is color true. Love the attached lighted magnifying glass. I use the helpful "third hand" clip all the time. Light on main branch is bright and all the branches are super flexible. I use this light in my sewing room for embroidery, beading, stitch picking, ironing, sewing, reading, etc. The floor lamp is heavy at the base so it does not tip over. It's the best lamp I've ever had.

Update: Responsible Customer Service (Original Rating 2 Stars: Lack of Warranty Support)
After submitting my original review below, I was contacted by OttLite to resolve my issue with this model lamp and especially their customer service around the warranty. First, a reminder that my main issue was a lack of warranty support. Though I do have a couple of issues about design flaws, those are just my take on the product.Typically in these situations, I am more than willing to exchange, repair or obtain a refund on a product. However, OttLite generously offered a replacement at no charge, and I accepted. The light arrived in a timely manner (3-5 days) and I assembled it right away and put it to use. Everything works fine as expected, even the post power outlet. The post outlet on the original one would pull out of the frame, but not this one. This was a minor problem that I didn't even mention in my original review. But now, OttLite seems to have corrected that issue. So this review has been changed from two to five stars. OttLite has definitely restored my trust in their product and especially in their product warranties. Therefore I can once again recommend OttLite products, especially to crafters and hobbyists.Last note and recommendation to OttLite. Thank you for honoring your warranty as it renews my trust in your product and company vision. As for the product, I would recommend exchanging the power outlet on the post for USB power ports.Original Review: (2 Stars)Having bought an OttLite many years ago, and one that to date hasn’t any problems, I thought buying this latest version would be a no brainer. However, after just a couple a months in use for my craft, the connection at the magnifying glass/light broke. The magnifying glass/light is at the end of a flexible arm, but the connection is stiff. So when adjusting the magnifier, you are putting stress on the connector, not the arm. This in my opinion is a design flaw. When the connection broke, I contacted OttLite’s warranty department. As per their instruction, I provided photos of the problem and expected an immediate resolution to the problem. The response received wasn’t what I expected. OttLite basically claimed it was user error, and therefore wouldn’t honor their warranty.I had trusted OttLite for years and had no use of their warranty until this purchase. It’s a disappointment that a company I once trusted is now slacking on product quality and warranty coverage. My advice is to consider competitors, which may in the end, be a better bargain.

Great lighting for cross stitch
So far so good with this purchase. It gives out great lighting and I like the magnifying glass (but for me it could actually be a bit higher power) Love the fact that I can clip my pattern up! The base is solid and heavy but I do have some reservations that alot of it is plastic so I am not 100% sure if things will crack or show wear. When you take it apart to attach the lamp to a table the parts are plastic and seem flimsy so I don't know how well/long they will last.

OTT light
This is the best lamp forSomeone who does crafts, puzzles or just to use as light. Love the magnified, pattern holder and the fact you can break it down to either sit on table top or use the clamp to add to a table makes it even better.

Much more than my previous Ott lite.
This is a great lite. I had one for 10 years and it broke. This one cost more than my other one, but it has great improvements. It has an electrical outlet in the base where I can charge things. The magnifier has a light that makes night sewing much easier even though I don’t need the magnifier itself .
