Beautiful
This is a beautifully illustrated book on the process of building a ukulele (or a Spanish guitar for that matter). It serves equally well as a an instruction manual and, in my view, a lovely coffee-table book. For me the hand-drawn illustrations are far more clear and instructive than photographs and I'm delighted to own a copy - it makes me smile every time I pick it up.

Nice book
Had made 2 ukuleles before buying this, after a short guitar building course and lots of time watching YouTube. Wondered if I'd get anything out of this but had a punt based on good reviews. I have not been disappointed. Some good simple wooden tool and jig making ideas. Takes the classical guitar approach and all processes really well explained and beautifully illustrated with all cauls and clamping methods clearly laid out. Really nice book.

Lots of tips from a professional
Bought this as a reference/guide to a ukulele build project. Very useful, much more than I thought it would be and has some great tips for the novice woodworker/instrument builder. There was one key piece of information missing for me (bridge positioning on the soundboard), perhaps an oversight by the author/illustrator and maybe could be added to later editions. I did manage to work it out myself but it would have been nice to have been pre-armed with the insider knowledge before doing that part. Other than that the book has been invaluable and would recommend it without hesitation.

Got to admire the ambition, but don't hope to rely solely on this book.
There's been lots of work put into this book by both author and illustrator and I'm currently working through it myself to build my first ukulele. I've learnt a lot through following it step by step and im generally happy with it.HOWEVER... (I want to love it, I really do, but I've got to say it...) There are a few mistakes and/or omissions that feel like they ought to have been picked up by the publisher. The largest error is that there is no information at all about how or where to fix the saddle/bridge to your uke! Information I'd available from others online, but it's a shame it's not actually there in the covers of the book. Elsewhere, there are variations in key measurements that are confusing and the layout is, at times, rather disorienting (there's no numbers to follow, so you have to read a page a few times to know whats next.) there's also times when the information I needed for the next step was pages and pages away.Maybe I'm being a little picky, but there are times it feels like the illustrator got a little tired drawing the same tiny parts over and over and cut corners. That's not to take away from the scale and ambition of the book but there are parts which are visibly more "polished" - perhaps the sample pages for backers to view on the Kickstarter?Sadly there are places where I just long for a simple photograph, especially when I'm attempting a piece of carpentry that I've never done before.Used in conjunction with other books/resources/experience and you'll probably be fine. But don't hope to rely only on this book or you'll be disappointed.

A little over th top for what is a very basic string instrument
Very well illustrated, instructions too involved, for a ' uke ' could have been less intricate you cannot really compare it to a classical guitarWhich they have done. But on the whole an interesting read, and I am constructing 2 ukes from all the left over stuff in my workshop taking most of the info. On board but disregarding the the more intricate stuff that I don't believe is warranted on a uke, let's face it George Formby was no John Williams.,
