Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer Vol. 1-2

"I'll never let it destroy the Earth, because the Earth will be destroyed by my own fists!"
Yuuhi is a troubled teen who avoids the company of others. One day, he wakes up to discover that he's been chosen to help save the world from an evil mage who intends to smash the planet like a vase with the might of the Biscuit Hammer, a moon-sized hammer hanging in space.Yuuhi doesn't really care much for the world, so he's inclined to pass up the call of duty; that is, until he's approached by the fearless and mighty Princess Samidare, leader of Earth's defenders. Samidare presents him with a proposal: help her save the world, so she can destroy it herself! The hilarity only escalates from there as the many Beast Knights of Earth join the fight, all unaware of the ulterior motives of their leader and her right-hand man.Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer is a downright hilarious, action-packed, heartwarming, and often tear-jerking trip through the lives of a large cast of wonderfully well-developed characters as they band together to save their world. This manga is an absolute gem, and one of my all-time favorite stories in any medium. Fans of just about any genre can find something to love here. Give it a shot!

Silly name, great story
I don’t know if I’ve ever read a comic with a bigger disparity between the quality of the writing and the silliness of the title. “Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer” sounds like a name you’d come up with to make fun of the titles of Japanese comics. However, the storytelling in this work is superb.Character motivations are established but mysterious, the world building drip feeds you enough to put the pieces together in a satisfying way, and the pacing is excellent. There’s very little in the story that feels unnecessary and I appreciate that the author has the faith in the readers to let us engage with the story on the story’s terms.Solid story, I look forward to reading the rest.

"One morning, when I woke up, I found myself face to face with a lizard..."
I'll be blunt - I first read this through the fan translations when it was just a weird little thing that looked like it was never going to get any serious notice. I fell in love with it then and I'm still in love with it now. Yeah, I'm constantly comparing this translation to the other one, and occasionally feeling thrown off by the differences from the version I'm used to, but I'm still giggling along with all the jokes and turning the pages as eagerly as ever. The translation is solid, and the book has a good print quality. I suspect this is going to fall apart on me someday - it's a fat "omnibus" edition of two manga volumes and books like that always develop binding issues, but mostly because I know I'm going to read the heck out of it. For anyone who's already a fan of the series like me, trust me, it's a worthwhile purchase to get a good, physical copy. For anyone else, well, I'm obviously very biased. Again, the translation is good and the art is clean and direct. Mizukami has a few issues with proportions and faces that you won't be able to un-see once you've noticed them, though they rarely detract from his excellent panel and page composition, and wonderful pacing. Action and dialogue bounce along, rarely getting bogged down, and you can almost see the fight scenes animated on the page. The characters are smart and funny, and it's very easy to grow attached to them over the course of the series. If you're anything like me, then this comic will just pick you up and sweep you along. Finally, the decision to release this as an omnibus edition is a good one. The first volume is fun and energetic, full of good jokes and swift action. However, the second volume provides some of the first big moments that make you realize there's a lot more going on beyond the humor and fights. Together they make a more solid first part than just volume 1 does on its own, and I hope anyone willing to buy a copy to check it out can overcome any reluctance inspired by the cost of a two-volume collection versus just one volume.

Amazing manga
A boy and a girl who hate the world, set out to save it so they can destroy it themselves. An amazing story of their journey, filled with loss and growth. This manga has some decent fights, but the focus is undoubtedly on the characters and their journey.

Slow but Amazing story
amazing story to start. Al thought slow at fist start to pick up in the other half. Excellent Character development for the Main and Side characters. I recommend to read it if you have the chance.
