LOVE that it leaves you so clean.....
While I am giving this soap five stars, it's because at the end of a shower, you feel fresh and deodorized like you should. However, the product, sitting in the soap dish in the shower itself makes the entire area of the house smell like it, which takes some getting used to. It's like old doctor's office meets diaper pail...? My husband had requested I buy Life Buoy, which I told him wasn't even made anymore. Au contraire--never say never until you check Amazon. The reviews on this soap were far better than the Life Buoy people had tried, so for far less $$$, I ordered the four-pack of Blue Power Carbolic Soap. The five stars are ONLY for its deodorizing properties, which I like. Although it's made by Blue Power, it's red, red, red and makes a mess of any soap holder or sponge you place it on. My husband is highly "reactive" to scents and aromas around here---I cannot use scented fabric softener or detergent. But, he hasn't griped at all about this odd smelling soap--I'm the one trying to describe its smell without gagging on my own description. I guess I'd have to say I have a love/hate relationship with this sloppy red soap with the odd aroma. It's only because it leaves you feeling so clean that I allow it in my home at all.

Not as pictured
Not sure if PCMX is carbolic acid or not. However, the ingredients in the picture are not the same as what I received. PCMX is a germicide so it will kill germs but like I said, I don't know if it is the same as carbolic acid or not. If someone can tell me it is just another name for it I will change my rating but until then it is not what was pictured.

clean smelling I would recommend
people are complaining about the smell of the soap but I think it smells antiseptic it makes the bathroom smell really cleanAnd I like clean smelling bathrooms as a opposed to perfumey smelling bathroomsSmells like some type of antiseptic they would use in the hospitalThe soap doesn't lather well unless using some type of bath sponge or squeegeeHowever it doesn't dry your skin out like most antiseptic soapsI wish it came in different colorsI even melted a small piece to put in my dog shampoo

A super soap!
Started using locally available carbolic soap (disinfectant soap containing phenol) to fight fungal infections when stationed in the Panama Canal Zone in the late seventies. However, I was unable to find it anywhere in the US since until now. This is the same quality carbolic soap made in Jamaica that was brought to Panama by folks from the West Indies who came to build the canal.

strong smell
I had read about the benefits of carbolic soap and glad this was on the market to try, however, it stinks. I believe this to be a quality of the type of soap rather than the brand. So if it's your first time using carbolic soap be aware that it has a very strong ( smelled up my bathroom), weird smell.

Smells Like Hell
I was reading reviews that this brand of carbolic soap is supposedly the closest thing one can get to the original scent of LifeBuoy soap. As such, I purchased some. My mother and grandmother said this does not smell anything like what they remember, but rather than it smells like gauze, from a hospital. Having a bar open fills an entire room with its musty odor. I am, of course, only speaking to the superficial qualities of the soap. Its germicidal properties may outweigh the odor in your opinion, but I'll keep a bar around for when I'm ill. However, it will be in a perfectly sealed case so I only have to smell it when necessary. I'll stick with Dial.

The Closest Thing To The Original Lifebuoy Soap You'll Find...
Lifebuoy Soap was something I always remembered having used while visiting my Grandmother's house. I'd purposely go and get extra dirty so Grandma would put me in the tub and wash me down with a good Lifebuoy bath. The scent is definitely a love or hate experience for most. I tend to like it even today if only because it makes me feel as though I'm really getting clean and disinfected (?) without just covering up things with some typical scent of today's soap products. I use it three to four times a week as my main go to soap in the shower. Hopefully this product will be around for years to come...
