Love this headlamp for snow camping or Burningman.
love this headlamp so much i bought a second one. my wife's cousin borrowed it for a trip to iceland & returned it, but failed to mention he broke the charging base. i tried to find one thru Petzl, but the company doesn't sell the base separately. i've used this in the snow for nordic ski patrol, in the dust & heat of Burningman for 5 years as well as normal camping. not sure why some other reviewers are complaining about the battery life. you can program it by turning the dial & selecting which mode you need - max brightness, max time or standard. i've used it for 5 nights in a row with occasional charging at burningman & 3 nights camping in the snow in yosemite with no charging. this is a professional grade headlamp if you check out their certifications. the genius in the design is the fold away - it won't turn on accidentally if it's folded. the angle is adjustable too so you won't be the idiot blinding everyone in camp. keep it in flood for most your normal tasks & then switch it to beam if you need to check out something in the distance. the flood is nice & even with barely a center hot spot. this is perfect as my everyday carry light.

Wore this for 5 days out hunting and it still has a charge. My use was primarily in the evening around camp and cooking dinner, but i also used it in the mornings while preparing for the day. I haven't had to recharge it after the first week long trip but the USB adapter makes it really worth it. I use charging docks while at camp or the car charger and if i only need to charge it every 5-6 days then its worth the money top me.

Great Light - horrible battery cell. Get the PIXA 3 and some rechargeable Energizer's
Fantastic product. As for the 2 stars: As many others have indicated, the rechargeable battery is terrible. I'm a plumber and used this lamp a few times a week for a few hours each use and have owned it less than a year. I took special care of the battery also, knowing the lamp would become useless if the battery failed. Being Li/Poly and made by a reputable brand I hoped to get at least 2 years out of it but it fell way short. In any configuration It switches to reserve mode within 20 minutes at room temp. Below 30°f it won't last a minute before switching to reserve. Charging on the dock takes several remove/replace attempts to get it to charge longer than 30 seconds. When it does want to charge it will switch between indicating a full charge and charging in progress for the entire night.I've contacted Petzl and I'm hoping for a replacement battery at least. I would prefer to exchange the whole unit for the Pixa 3 and use my own rechargeable batteries. At least when those crap out it won't cost $90 for a new set.

Great especially for use with Petzl helmet
Relatively expensive for spare battery pack, but worth the money, particularly if you wear a Petzl helmet. Eliminating the band and the clunky battery pack of traditional headlamps is well worth it. I generally use it in low flood for walking around and general work. I turn it up just for close inspection of something. The control knob is perfect for gloved use.

Poor charging dock design
I have been using Pixa 1 for years, and decided to upgrade to Pixa 3R for its rechargeable battery. The light works great, but the charging dock has the worst design I have ever seen - the contact is so poor that I usually need to put the light on the dock multiple times before it finally gets it. This is also not just a defective item - I bought two, and both have exactly the same issue. Very disappointed.
