GM Genuine Parts 25836299 Rear Parking Brake Cable Assembly

Really glad we went with OEM rather than third-party for this repair job. The housing on the factory set was corroded through resulting in seized cables. These appear to have additional coating on the cable leading to the bracket connector for the rear drum brake and the housing itself is slightly thicker. The hardest part of DIY'ing the replacement was removing the central console to get to the tensioner mechanism for the handbrake which required some ratchet extensions and a torx bit.

Works great. The passenger side cable snapped on my Cobalt. I only purchased one. I should have known better, but the Cobalt (as I am sure the Pontiac G5 as well) has two parking brake cables. I replaced the broken one and found out that the other cable had stretched and no longer engages when the new one is pulled tight. It is a quick fix, so you might as well replace both cables so that you are pulling even tension on both brake shoes. I have another one on order.

For some reason after I installed the brand new cable on the driver side, it was about 3 inches to long.. Luckly I made due using a cable clamp to take up the 3 inches of slack.

Had it installed by PepBoys... perfection for my daughters 2007 chevy cobalt!

These were an exact fit for my 2008 Chevy Cobalt LT coupe.No issues yet, only time will tell.
