We went with a different brand when these first came out. It stopped working by year 3. This replacement is noticeably higher quality at keeping salt air and water away from the batteries.

Great concept. Thought I could easily transport it between my boat and the dinghy without much concern about waterproofing. However, when it arrived, I went out and bought 8 brand new D Cell batteries. Tried six of the eight batteries and the device never even flickered. I know that every once in awhile a lemon will get by quality control but when my life and the life of my guests could come down to this device, I cannot trust the manufacturer and will avoid any products in the future that they make.

Many boaters don’t take safe boating classes.I’m using this for my safety on the water.

Hope I never have to use it but it seems rugged and should last a long time

Clumsy...rattled...heavy...didn't say where it is made. Designed poorly. Don't like switch.Not recommended

Got it for our family boat. It's so big and heavy that our little girls can't even hold it. The rubber switch was cracked and broken out of the package. When I put the batteries in they rattled. Poorly made and obviously NOT water proof.

Stored in the original packaging, I happened to pull it out to test it and the bottom of the unit had completely rotted off. Apparently the unit was completely destroyed when the batteries leaked.Update: After talking with customer service who repeatedly threatened that they will not cover (the warranty is void) for battery leaks. They offered to take a look at it but my cost of $25 to ship it to them to see their bad materials is better spent toward buying a different brand.
