Limited palette but I find it acceptable for mixing and it fits easily in shoulder bag or backpack for outdoor work, or just for a quick work or practice at the art table. The pigments are very nice and seem to hold up so far.I purchased one for myself a few months ago just to "see" how it would work for me and found it to be a great purchase. So well in fact, I purchased this one for my 22 YO granddaughter who is just beginning watercolor painting, but is a true natural. Again, a limited palette but can certainly easily be used for mixing your own colors and is a great 'pocket' size.

This is the best value for a student watercolor set on the market right now. The pigment loads are strong and the color selection is good for learning mixing with limited colors. I have two palettes from this brand and I still get a lot of use out of them even though I have my professional palette.

This is a sturdy and compact set of 12 half pans. Initially, I thought the included travel brush was broken--then I realized that the end of the brush was shaped like a screwdriver with which the divided palette could be easily pried up and out. Beneath the divided palette is larger, tray palette--perfect for washes. The paints were well labelled, protected, unbroken, creamy and intensely pigmented. Van Gogh includes a lovely Paynes Grey (no black, yay!). The only "color" I object to in this set is white--unnecessary, and a cheap substitution for a real color. I removed it, replaced it with a blank half-pan, and filled it with Van Gogh tube watercolor in Cobalt Blue. The replacement half pan juts up a little higher than the ones in the set, but that's not a big deal and the box closes tightly. The colors are appropriate for travel--any additional colors desired can be mixed from those included. I have paints from many different manufacturers, both artist and professional grade, these are less chalky than W &N Cotman, but don't lift and move as well as W & N pro quality. Would I recommend this set to a friend? Yes. Absolutely.

I went from using crayola water colors to this and oh my god are these wonderful. I love the colors and the paint feels good/moves well on the paper. The little pots can be switched out which is fine, but I've dropped the pallate a few times and nearly lost some pots when they flew out.This has DEFINITELY made my painting improve. I don't use the brush that comes with it often but it seems reliable and good for travel.

excellent quality, have used it quite a bit, and am impressed with the high quality watercolor paint.Gave also as a gift in the past to professional watercolorist, who loves it.

I bought these as a travel set. I like the box but I do wish it was a little smaller. The colors are vibrant and super easy to activate. This paint glides on like butter! I can’t say enough about how much I have enjoyed working with them. The travel brush is good, and has a nice point but the handle doesn’t fit tight enough and tends to come apart while using it. Love the paint enough to give it 5 stars despite the brush.

Received earlier then excepted. My frist pression of the kit is that there is a lot of mixing space. The box is also pretty light weight and feels pretty durable. The paints look bright and vibrant. The brush is great considering it plastic. The brush is also more comfortable to use than others out there because it has a longer handle. I also like that the pans dont seem to pop out easily once you push them in the first time around.
