The history between the Gragnano family and pasta dates back to ancient times. The Gragnano family care deeply for pasta, and through their La Fabbrica Della Pasta company they have created a very unique artisan range of pasta. La Fabbrica Della Pasta creates its delicious pasta with water from the springs of Mount Vesuvius and the finest durum wheat semolina then finally died the traditional bronze colour using dyes. This pasta has been through 3 generations of the Gragnano family and is still made the same way as it was during the first by using skill and patience, although now the company has expanded and it has a wider variety of pasta including tricolore and gluten free varients. With the literal meaning of "quills" in Italian, the name describes this substantial pasta's hollow and diagonal-cut shape, similar to an old fashioned pen tip. Penne comes smooth or ridged and is best served with meat, fish, or hearty vegetable dishes, can be baked in a casserole and is also suitable for frying.
