Made well and sturdy for our indoor doggie gate
Reading all of the reviews, I decided to order the latches because they were so nice. The black wrought iron gate flip latch is very sturdy and stable. We purchased 3 sets. One for each hardwood dog gate, we created for our home. They are adorable and well made! I would not use them on an exterior barn door or stable. The latches are not large enough to support massive doors and weight, so it is important that you read all of the detail regarding them before purchase.I would recommend them for handmade hardwood dog gates, kitchen cabinets, or for crafting if you are re-purposing antiques. So all of the negative reviews are due to the fact that they did not do their own research. With the order, we also purchased the 5 1/4 or 5 1/2 inch wrought iron hinges to attach to the frame of our hardwood dog doors. I apologize when it comes to the exact measurement but, you can find them here on Amazon. So with all of this said, we are absolutely satisified with our purchases, Thank you!

Love
Expected it not to be as quality as it is. It’s not at all a heavy piece but it’s solid. And once put up on door it looks fabulous and works great. Not at all flimsy or loose when in closed position. We have an indoor pig who loves to try and sneak into our large walk in pantry. I hate the difficult child safety patches that actually work for the type of double doors we have on our pantry plus they are just not convenient or attractive. The hardware in our kitchen match this piece so it fits in beautifully and looks so special and unique. A lot less like we are those crazy parents who lock up the food like we live in a prison. This is not so obtrusive and does the job perfectly. It’s a good side not to look pathetic and to small but it’s not overbearing and big. Highly recommend.

SECURE
I have now ordered another. This bar is used to secure our back privacy fence gate. The gate has a latch, however, it is not secure. We secure the gate with this bar; very heavy duty. Living in an area that has had thefts from garages and yards. Twice now, someone has pulled our back privacy fence gate out toward the alley. The gate opens inward, not outward. They have pulled it so hard we've had to lift the gate to straighten it back out to close. the only thing that prevented the gates from opening was this bar. I have recently ordered another to give it double the strength. The only thing I wish is that this bar was longer; another 6 inches would be ideal for our use. Very strong.

Lightweight
Delivered with chipped screws, replaced with all new screws when one broke during installation. Once installed, numerous rust points began to show, which I suppose is normal for cast iron. If you're looking for a rusted, vintage look, this is perfect. The latch portion kept sticking to the wooden post, rubbing the paint off the post, and causing a frustrating struggle each time we wanted to open the gate. Once the latch was up, it would stay up, despite oiling the mechanism. This morning, I watched my neighbor give up after fumbling with it, opting to walk through the entire backyard instead, and I decided this "hard"ware had to go.I wanted to like this, because the handle is pretty, and I liked the cast iron look.

Good for the money
I needed a smaller door latch for the two gates I built. I wanted something a little rustic but not large to overpower the size of the gate, 42" x 66". This door latch was exactly what I wanted. The price was in range and the quality is good. I read some of the reviews that mentioned the latch was made of thin metal and the handle screws pulled out. I think the catch could be made from slightly thicker metal but I don't see a problem with the material used. The handle screws seem more than aliquot for the job. There is no way the screw heads will pull through.All-in-all this door latch is a good product, heavy duty for a side entrance gate latch. I would buy it again if needed.

Great Latch!
We have an old solid wood door as my home office door. We've never had a working latch on it mostly because we just never took the time to work on it. I started a new job recently that made it important to be able to close and latch the door. The best Home Depot could offer was a giant latch system made for an outdoor fence gate which was way too big for the door to my tiny office. I saw this one, showed it to my husband and we ordered it straight away. It arrived safely but without instructions. We're pretty handy with most projects but this one seemed to be missing the piece that holds the latch on to the back side of the door. It seems like this is the intent and that piece wasn't really missing, it's just simply not supposed to be there. The latch is held on by a single screw that allows it to swing up and down without issue. Installation was easy and the screws held up about as good as any other screws of that size. Not great but not awful. The only issues we came across are specific to the door and the door frame and not the latch itself. Overall we're very pleased with the look and feel of the product and will likely buy more as we look to replace more door latches around the house.
