No the design isn't smart, the top 3 zippers create a pocket where water could fill up. And on each end where the middle zipper starts and ends there's holes. Water will very easily get into the main compartment

Don't have a MacBook BUT I have a 16 inch Dell Chromebook. And no. This won't fit my Chronebook. Maybe the MacBook is a bit smaller than my Chrimebook, but Id imagine you'd might be cramming it into this size bag. It's a better fit for tablets than a laptop Is say.
