This map is perfect for planning an extensive trip to Costa Rica. It's large enough to see the details of towns and roads well. It has excellent closeups of the streets in major and medium cities. It has a really good chart of distances between cities in kilometers. I've been told that one kilometer equals about one minute of travel time, so that makes it easy to estimate time for travel. The map is a good heavy paper, so I think it will hold up well in use.

Very high quality map with all the major city details. Excellent for a traveler to the country who is going to multiple destinations.Waterproof and feels durable.But - it is oversized. Does not fit into travel wallets - even the oversized wallets are too small. Means have to keep map separate from other important travel documents/money.

A couple of us picked up this map for our recent trip to Costa Rica (October 2015). We actually had two of these with us on the trip, which I guess it's great to be over prepared. We used this map right when we got to Costa Rica. We landed in San Jose and rented a car for the 9 day trip in which we traveled to 5 different locations in the country. We did get SIM cards when we got there so we could use our GPS on our phones for directions, but I wanted to make sure we would have a backup just in case. I really did not want to end up stranded in a foreign country on the backroads if there was no GPS signal. The ladies at the rental car place were able to show us on this map how to get to our first destination without issue. I love that the map is waterproof. We were there during rainy season, and depending on which part of the country you are in, when it rains, it pours. We were pretty prepared for the weather, but it was great to know that if we got stuck, we had the map and it would disintegrate from the rain. Another feature that we loved was the commonly used Spanish phrases on the back. For someone who failed Spanish 101 in college, this was a nice feature.Overall, price point is great, the map is accurate, and the waterproof feature is great. Great find and great product.

Planning a visit to Costa Rica and I am finding this map most helpful. I search for something on the internet, and using the index I can find it on the map. Why don't other mapping printers (like National Geographic) do this? It would make their product useful.

Excellent, durable map with lots of details - most valuable thing we packed for our Costa Rica trip. It's not just the streets, but also many of the hotels, restaurants, places you'll go which is essential because most places don't have addresses. You find places by what they are near. GPS is also essential so you know where you are on the map, but do not rely on GPS to find your route because it can't distinguish between a pothole filled, muddy, unpaved side road you do not want to travel on and a highway (paved road) that will get you where you are going. Use this map and stay on the red routes even if it looks farther - it will save you time! The plastic coating kept it from tearing when we opened and closed it millions of times and folded it in different shapes. Great map also for planning your trip. (And remember distances take about 3 times as long as you would expect.)
