A Great Dose Of Pop Hits From 1970-1972
Let's flashback to the early 70s back when Richard Nixon was president and television paved way for shows like All In The Family and Maude and musicals such as Tommy and Jesus Christ Superstar were all the rage and movies such as Love Story and The Summer Of '42 dealt with deep-felt and mature themed issues. Whereas the songs featured here were just a dose of what was happening between January of 1970 and October of 1972. The earliest hit here is a version of the Midnight Cowboy theme as interpreted by the team of Ferrante & Teicher both of whom were talented pianists. The Ides Of March power on with "Vehicle", which gives an impression of David Clayton-Thomas and Blood, Sweat & Tears. Blues Image hit #1 with "Ride Captain Ride" was led by Mike Pinera, who served as guitarist with Iron Butterfly in 1970. This songs falls between "Yellow Submarine" and "Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald" on that theme.Speaking of Tommy, The Assembled Multitude serves us with "Overture From Tommy(A Rock Opera)" which was faster-paced than the Who's own version and not only that, this version climbed the charts higher than the two Top Forty hits from Tommy-"Pinball Wizard" and "I'm Free". Which I find hard to believe.Come 1971, before the Bee Gees reformed and had a string of hits, Maurice Gibb produced the song "Toast And Marmalade For Tea" for Tin Tin which gave it that "I Started A Joke"-feel to it. Delaney & Bonnie & Friends offered us "Never Ending Song Of Love" which became their swan song on the charts as Delaney & Bonnie split up personally and professionally as the pair divorced the following year although that fall the icing on the cake for Bonnie Bramlett when the Carpenters had a million-selling hit with "Superstar", the song she co-authored with Leon Russell over a year before[Which I first heard on Joe Cocker's live album Mad Dogs & Englishmen as sung by the Delta Lady herself-Rita Coolidge]. Alvin Lee's group Ten Years After hit the Top 40 with "I'd Love To Change The World", which was their major chart success. As 1971 was giving way to 1972, we saw a Coca-Cola ad on the tube for the holiday season and was repeated every holiday season throughout the decade where people with candles and sitting cross-legged formed a Christmas tree thus inspiring "I'd Like to Teach The World to Sing(In Perfect Harmony) by The New Seekers. My favorite here is the Top Five remake of the 1961 Tokens hit "The Lion Sleeps Tonight(Wimoweh)(Mbube)" by Robert John, which was produced by Tokens member Hank Medress. What I like about this version is the use of slide guitar in place of the high voice during the verses and the clarinet break was replaced by a tuba break. It doesn't get any better than this. That summer gave us the biggest hit of Wayne Newton's career "Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast" and a Top 30 hit by Flash-"Small Changes".Summing up this collection is probably the biggest hit for Arlo Guthrie five years after his epic "Alice's Restaurant" with the Steve Goodman song "The City Of New Orleans" and not only that the chorus' opening line 'Good Morning America' would later inspire the morning news show of that title which premiered in 1975.For a reasonable collection of pop hits from the early 70s look no further here. Believe me, you'll love it.

Having a Nice Day With Super Hits of the 70's
I like this CD because it brings back lots of great memories of the 70's. Many are hard to find these days. I can only name to you one song that comes to mind, which is "Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast " by Wayne Newton.

Most songs have good sound. One does not.
I bought his CD mainly because of one specific song. And that song is "I'd Love to Change the World" by Ten Years After. The acoustic guitar riff (which comes out of the left channel on my sound systems) sounds muffled and faint. Even after making adjustments to my sound equipment, the acoustic guitar does not sound clear. And I get the same results when playing this CD in my car. That song was not processed very well when it was put on to this compilation. The other songs sound pretty good although I avoid listening to some of them such as, "Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast". I enjoy listening to "Ride Captain Ride", "Vehicle", and "The City of New Orleans". I gave only 3 stars due to the poor sound on that one song and because a few songs are not that great (IMHO).
