Great Knives, TERRIBLE Block
I got these as a Christmas Gift- and have to say I love the knives. They are beautiful and functional, and I like the balance and weight better than I ever liked my Henckles or Wusthof knives. Where these break down for me is the block. I loved the idea of the narrow, long line of block, but the one that comes with the set is beautiful but not functional. The magnets in the block aren't strong enough to hold the knives up and down, so they slide against the acrylic piece. The Acrylic piece isn't stiff or strong enough not to bow out, so they slide, tip, tilt, and ultimately end up suspended by the edges of their handles- not ideal.I still think the set is a good value- cheaper than buying all of the knives individually, but know that you'll want to get something else as a block, as this one is useless.

I like these knives - good quality blade
I like these knives - good quality blade, the wood handles are beautiful once i oiled them. But, when i got them they seemed like they weren't finished. the metal tang was not flush with the wood sides. For $100+ for six knives i was disappointed with the workmanship of the finished product. the edges of the metal - both the top and the bottom - felt sharp on my hand when i held the knives. They felt as if i ran my hand quickly down the handle they might cut my hand. I had to spend an hour and half sanding down the metal edges with 120 grit and then 400 grit to finish (120 was a bit rough; i would recommend 200 + 400 to finish). This worked pretty well to get the handles to where they feel comfortable in my hand. I do really like the knives now. I wanted to give this product 5 stars, but like i said - for the money i paid, i expected a well finished set of knives that didn't require extra work on my part.

Great Knife. Teak is gorgeous
I bought the "Mofotuko" 7" chef knife as an add-on to the teak bonded full set. This knife is GREAT. Just the right size, it's big, heavy and solid. This may be a turn off for some, but I'm a big guy and this feels good in my hands. The teak is beautiful and looks good on display on my counter. If you've never had real wood handled knives you need to make sure you read how to care for the handle scales. NEVER leave the knife in the sink and let it absorb water. You should also use a food grade mineral oil on the scales every few months to help the wood stay in shape. The first time you do this it may take 2 coats. Wipe a drop or two down each scale and then let it sit for about 20 minutes to soak in. After that wipe the excess off. This will keep it from absorbing water and stains quickly.

a german and indonesian beauty
I am a professional chef with dozens of excellent knives in my personal collection. As a chef, I have a slight disdain for knife sets and usually hand choose knifes individually. The only set I had previously was the set I got from school. Well, that doesn't work too well when your GF likes a pretty looking counter.I've had experience with Schmidt Brothers knives before in professional kitchens and knew that the steel they use is excellent, the same steel used in the premier lines of Wusthof and Henkels. They take a good edge and have good edge retention. I knew they had good balance, good ergonomics and they take a beating. So I chose this set as the one for my home kitchen counter. It's beautiful and gets many comments from friends that visit, but they are good enough that I don't mind using them too. I still have and use other knives at home, but their kept in their sleeves in a drawer because the GF wants a beautiful set on the counter rather than my chaotic collection.

Great blade, sub-par handle
The knife is pretty great for the price, but the handle leaves something to be desired. The blade itself is very nice, and super sharp. It also looks pretty awesome, and the transition from knife to handle is very unique. However, the handle itself could really use a bit extra sanding, polishing and oiling as the wood is pretty roughly-hewn, and looks like it has gotten wet many times. It'll probably take some work to get it looking better. Maybe I got a bum knife but it doesn't look as nice as the picture. It's all good, I'm sure I can buff it out, but it wasn't as impressed with it as I thought I would be. There's also a bit of a strange feel to the grip on this one - I use a pinch grip most of the time and it feels a bit unnatural.

good price for a great chef knife
I have had it for a few months now, it's pretty much the only knife I use in the kitchen. Stay sharp for almost a month and I cook everyday. just need to sharpen it once a month and it's good to go. good weight, well balanced and very good for the price. The wooden handle might be a bit rough to some, I was expecting a well buffed smooth handle as well. it's not a shiny wood handle, but it not rough to a point that will hurt my palm.I only wash this knife in the sink, never in dish-washing machine.

Great knives
I originally purchased one of these knives at Marshals. I loved the way it felt in my hand and the look. I had been looking for a great set to purchase.when I found the Schmidt teak knife at Marshals I decided there and then I would purchase each knife I wanted instead of in a set. The Marshals knife did have a bit of a rough handle it is wood. So I purchased butcher block conditioner. I wanted to take care of my knives and also purchased a bamboo cutting board. So to smooth down any Handel that arrives rough take a nail buffer and smooth it down then condition the handle with the food grade mineral oil. It worked like a charm. I live in a dry climate so having this conditioner is a must. Also I will be hand washing beach knife and drying immediately.

The design is amazing, the knife block itself is my favorite part
The design is amazing, the knife block itself is my favorite part. The only downfall for me is that the finish on the wood is not seamless, it feels rough, like I might get a splinter and you can feel the space between the wood and the steel, it's more prominent on some knives over others so uniformity is also an issue. Overall a good purchase for the price and design, I just wish it were a bit more "finished".
