Brower 398N11CR 11/16-Inch Spiral Leg Bands, Red (Pack of 100)

UPDATE-- WARNING 12-30-2020 I've really liked these bands but have had a couple of chickens over the years whose legs have grown into the bands. Please check your chickens often to make sure there isn't an issue with the band.I use a different color for each year to keep track of the year my hens were hatched. The bands are easy to put on and don't seem to bother the birds at all. I did have one miss-sexed bird that grew to be a HUGE rooster, I had to take the band off of him as it got tight on his leg. I've never had a hen get big enough for a band to get tight on them, I have around 15 different breeds of full size hens. The bands make identifying the older birds from the younger ones easy.

These are very easy to connect to the chickens leg. I decided to put the blue tag on the bird's left leg for the Summer of 2014. This way, I can use the extras, same color but on the right leg in two years from now on my new, future birds. Once the tags are put on the bird, the chickens seem to not notice the tag as they are not tight, but fit perfectly. I tagged Rhode Island Reds and Black Bards. I purchased red tags for my new Summer of 2015 birds.To gather the birds, I closed the door to the chicken hutch at night, and then in the morning, opened a smaller door in the hutch that allowed me to hand grab one chicken at a time. Since I only had 15 birds to tag, the task of tagging the birds took about 5 minutes. I do recommend that two people do this as one person holds the bird and the other connects the tag.

I really needed a pack of 100 for a project. Disappointed when there were NOT 100 in the pack. No I am under the gun to get the correct number of bands.

Works as should

I liked these very minamally. They would work well for smaller type birds or just baby or young chicks. I bought these to place on my flock of 3 month old hens. There isn't much room for their leg to grow and the bands having room in them. They are already too tight and the hens are 4 months old and almost starting to lay. I am going to have to catch and remove some of the bands because I'm afraid they will grow into their legs. You know what I mean? Also, the ends of the bands are sharp and pointy. I'm not sure why they wouldn't be made dull especially since they are placed on an animal. I really didn't like that part. I'm sorry to say, I wouldn't buy these again.

These bands work great. I keep around 200 birds. I use a different color band for each year. That way I know how old my hens are when it's time to cull the flock. 11/16 is the correct size for most birds. Better too big than too small. I keep Leg Horns, Golden Comets, and some Jersey Giants. These bands fit them all. To keep a healthy flock it is important to always monitor your flock. Occasionally a bird will have swelling when a band has pinched. If you catch it soon enough you can usually just free the band and the bird will do fine. Due diligence is key. I ordered 100 bands this time and only got 50. I contacted Hawkeye Steel and they promptly sent me 50 more. Great Company.

Worked well on all different breeds of my layer chickens. Even fit my big roosters. Satisfied.

I used these to band my Golden Buffs - equivalent to the size of my Buff Orphingtons. They worked great! They are the perfect size, although I could have used them on a big bigger or smaller chicken. They have been on the hens for 2 months now and have not had any issues. Legs are healthy and none of the bands have come off.
