I admit it, this toy was for me, the Mom
My son is in kindergarten and always wants to help me knit when he sees me knitting. So I thought weaving would give him a way to get his fingers into some fiber in a way that would be satisfying (not too frustrating or slow-going). His interest has been fleeting so far, but I keep it around for when the mood strikes. He does show an interest from time to time.Meanwhile, I have had a jolly good time with it! I'm enjoying it's mobility, and am currently working on weaving with big chunky lopi yarn (100% wool), then sewing two panels together into a small pouch, then felting it. I think the possibilities are endless with this device.Beware: if you weave too tightly, you will achieve an hourglass-shaped piece at the end, so it's worth youtubing a video on beginning pegloom weaving or something like that to keep the tension even. Likewise, any peg loom with this design but larger than this would be very hard to manage--it's very hard to prevent that hourglass phenomenon if the loom is too big. Also, the yarn that comes with this loom is nice, although the colors may not appeal to everyone (naturally). A good local yarn shop (or an on-line one if need be) could provide lots of inspiration. The loom itself is nice quality, providing a wonderfully aesthetic experience for learning to weave. I must say, I feel proud that this beautiful product was made in the USA.)And one more thing: this might make a nice gift companion for a book called Weaving the Rainbow.

Great beginner loom!
This is an excellent starter loom for children or adults! I bought it for myself to make mini art wall hangings, found in such books as "On the Loom" or "DIY Woven Art". The loom is sturdy and easy to use. The quality is much better than similar looms I've seen at this price point. I suggest purchasing a metal weaving needle Susan Bates Steel Weaving Needle, 5-Inch to replace the included plastic one. You'll also need a shed stick, but any short ruler, house paint stir stick or similar flat/smooth item will do.

A great weaving project for most kids, however it will be a challenge for my ADHD grand daughter.
I'm glad I bought two of these. In working on the first, I can anticipate the challenges my grand daughter will encounter. It will be most satisfying when we actually bring the weaving to completion, but it will take time and patience to make that happen.

Sturdy and sized just right for young children; Instructions are somewhat vague
Our 5-1/2-year-old daughter opened up the package yesterday and was quite excited to start working with the loom. The bright colors that come with it appealed to her greatly, although there are differing amounts of each of the several colors (ours came with a bevy of purple but only one strand of yellow.) There is, however, ample wool yarn to make several projects. The loom itself is surprisingly sturdy and solid and I am pleased with its size, which is small enough for a younger child to feel like they are accomplishing something for their efforts. She began her "wall hanging" today and is already half way through it -- and still excited about weaving and about finishing her project. She has worked on it for about three hours over the last two days so far. While she is still figuring out how to not bunch up the sides of the piece, she has the over/under rhythm of the weaving and is so excited about her new craft that she taught her older brother how to do it, too. Being new to weaving myself, I am not certain about how to accomplish a few details (like how to tuck in those ends properly) and the instructions are rather vague so I have deducted one star for an otherwise very good product. I feel I should also mention that the box came crushed and opened (actually, it looked like a returned item) so I was pleased to see the materials inside were not damaged. So, we're ordering another, this one for our 8-year-old son. Happy weaving!

I am a weaver and I did not like this. It is well made
I am a weaver and I did not like this. It is well made, but the pegs are way too large. I bought it for my 10 year old niece, but wove a small piece to try it out before I sent it to her, and was very discouraged. The warp threads are so widely spaced that it looked like loose burlap fabric unless I beat it so hard it was a rug, all loopy and ugly. Just cut a piece of cardboard and make a small loom for your first project, don't waste your money.

My granddaughter loves it
My granddaughter saw a demonstration of someone weaving on a large loom at the Florida Heritage Village and she wanted aloom. I went to all the craft stores such as Michaels and Joanne - none had any looms so I went online to Amazon and found this loom which is small enough for a young child. My granddaughter. who is 7 yrs old., loves the loom and she has made a scarf for her doll. However, some of the instructions are hard to follow.
