Awesome
I've made 3 films with this and my instruction hasn't known that I was using my ipad. On my latest film he said he it was some of the best cinematography he has seen since he started teaching. You need lots of lighting, but other than that, this is awesome.

Great idea, Poor Retention System put iPad and accessories at risk
As a professional photographer, doing more video work, this would be a great tool to have in your kit. I love the idea, however after watching the demo video featuring full sized iPad, and having one for less than a week, the design needs to be reviewed and adjusted. Things I like are the cold shoe mounts, it is nice to hang currently owned mics & lights on the mount, granted, determining the right combination of connections to the iPad is challenging, I decided to pick up a iRig Mic Cast. With a lack of a retaining system, you are given an elastic band to hold your ($300-$700) iPad in place. I picked up the iRig this afternoon, after mounting the Mount on a Manfrotto tripod, I installed my iPad with the $40 iRig Mic. Subsequently, I had to adjust a leg length on the tripod, and when I slowly tilted the assembly, the iPad fell out of the mount 40" to a thick area rug. the iPad was undamaged, however the iPad landed iRig mic first, and was destroyed even before testing.I will be sending this one back for a refund, and giving the iographer a try. Better to lose a $40 mic than a $500 iPad. And if that one sucks, I guess I'll be designing my own unit.

Wide angle lens works fine though.
The case is not made exactly to spec, making it impossible for the ipad to stay snug in the case while up on a tripod. I had to use elastic to secure it onto the case. Wide angle lens works fine though.

It is a perfect fit for our school's TV studio setup.
Easy to install and turns the iPad mini into a camera look-alike. We use it on the tripod as our main camera for our weekly news production. It's a perfect fit for our setup.

Solid unit, but iPad does not stay secure in the mount.
I had high hopes but was disappointed overall in the Makayama movie mount for iPad mini.Construction of unit is solid. However, the big warning flag was that there was a package insert with a rubber band (basically a black ponytail holder/hair accessory) that instructed you to slip this over the edge of the iPad, especially if you attach an optional lens to the movie mount (which I also purchased). The iPad does not "click" or slide in place securely -- it easily peels away from the mount. It needs something to hold it around the edges/corners better and not obscure the screen (as the rubber band does whenever it is wrapped around unit.) and I'm sorry, but the rubber band is not an elegant solution for a unit as expensive as this.I guess you can trust it to hold if your subject is stationary. But I bought the unit to film sports. If you are panning left to right with your tripod, forget it. My iPad popped out-- luckily I stopped it from falling to the floor.I emailed the company with my concerns and to try to return the unit and got no response back.

DON'T BUY THIS!
Wanted a mount for my ipad mini, so a similar item on you tube so I went and ordered it. 1st. it was different from the video (totally my fault, I thought you could completely remove the lens) 2nd, you can make your own mount for under about $10 1hr and buy a set of 3 really good lenses from [...]. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your money on this!
