Good for preparing a young child to move
We were moving so I purchased this book to help prepare my son who is 3. He liked this book and wanted to read it over and over again. The written word is very minimal in this book, but the pictures are interesting, and I used them to describe the moving process and what was going to happen. We talked about the faces of the people in the book and how they were feeling and how we might feel when we move. Without adding anything to the book of my own, I don't feel it was incredibly helpful, but if it's used as a conversation starter it is beneficial.

Awesome book.
Wonderful book that deals with many emotions and moving to a different place. The illustrations are wonderful. The text is simple but effective. Perfect for a first grader to read aloud or for you to read to kids 3-8. We read it when a couple of the kids were 2. We just asked leading questions about the illustrations and how we thought the boy and his dog were feeling in addition to the text. Buy this book. You won't regret it.

We had recently moved daycare centers and the 3 yr old was having a hard time with the transition. This was a nice book to explain how new things can end up being fun and good. It is a short easy read with great illistrations!

I was a kid that moved often - I wish there was a book like this then. The story will help many children having to give up friends and move to a new scary place...the illustrations seem to be from a kids eye view...Every library should have this on hand, for the new kid!

The complexities of what good-byes sometimes really mean
It's a funny thing, the phrase "Good Bye." It's so aspirational! If only byes were always good! LOL!In Bad Bye, Good Bye, we see the complexities of what good-byes sometimes really mean as we travel alongside a family that's literally "on the move." At first, all the adjectives are simply the word 'bad' (bad day; bad box)...then they gradually move to descriptive negative (stuffed car; hot seat), descriptive neutral (smooth glass; long nap), to everything being new (new house, new hall) to, finally (and believably) good.A lot has been written about picture book word choice, sentence structure, text breaks, and page turns. This book does all of those things with a deft hand, certainly, but I think maybe its greatest strength is its expert structural scaffolding. With minimal words but smart use of repetition that evolves as it goes, the story shows both emotional arc and plot simultaneously--and in the reader-friendliest way.The art in this book is also thoughtfully done, showing the highs and lows of such a big transition. Pay special attention to the book's cover, where closer inspection will show you that the "traffic jam" of cars is really the same family at various emotional stages of their journey.
