Sanctuary: Season 2

Better than year 1...
I just finished watching this season 2 on Blu-Ray... much better picture than on regular TV. I have one major complaint, but the rest is all good. The complaint is about the packaging... they cheaped out or something and 2 of the 4 discs were out of the holders and floating free and scatched up because they went with some new design where the top discs slide into a semicircle at the bottom of the top disc only and the bottom discs rest in an indentation so the DESIGN is for them to lie on top of the other! Who's stupid idea was that? The design, even if it works, isn't going to protect 2 out of 4 discs from getting scratched up! Stupid! ********* UPDATE! ******I have just gotten a replacement set due to bad sound on the final episode #13... Frankly this episode sounds as if someone forgot to set up for 5.1 dolby or 5.1 DTS... it sounds like the sound from the old 2.0 stereo from years ago... with one difference, the music and sound effects are still coming through the center speaker, but no dialogue. Dialogue is coming through the right front speaker! And very little is coming out of left front at all... So, I don't know what to make of this... all the other episodes 1 thru 12 on discs 1-3 sound just fine... only the final episode on disc 4 is like this - on both sets Amazon sent me... so, is this a manufacturing problem? You people will have to tell me that.

Not as good as Season 1 but still one of my favorite shows.
Not going to go on too much here, others have written most of the pros and cons. I, too, thought the first season was much better, and I was one that really liked the Ashley character and was quite disappointed when they wrote her off. As much as I would want to 'like' the Kate character, I'm not a big fan of the smart-ass, mouthy type, and the way she was integrated into the storyline so quickly, left some ho-hums...how'd that come about, what?...questions. Have always loved Amanda Tapping, I still greatly miss the wonderful Stargate shows..both SG-1 and Atlantis (Christopher Heyerdahl as my favorite Wraith). As an aside here, I really liked the Wraith as the 'bad guys' in SG-A, I was hoping somehow they might show up in Universe (which I was sorely disappointed in), but no such luck. Anyhow, I too thought the Cabal storyline could morph into all kinds of situations, but Season 2 seemed to go in an entirely new direction. From what I've seen of Season 3 so far, there's potential still, but I wish the writers would get back to what made the show so great (in my opinion) in the beginning..the abnormals, the Cabal intrigues, somehow bringing Ashley back from wherever she went (anything's possible you know). Still, all in all, I really like Sanctuary and am really looking forward to some new episodes.

A definite step up in quality from Season 1.

Highly recommended twist on the old classics and folk lore.
Highly recommend to watch if you enjoy the classics like Molby Dick, Sherlock Holmes and folk lore. It is a modern twist on these old tales that you can watch at your own convenience. They are a great value to rent or purchase.

Quality Sci-Fy
Having been a comic book & Science Fiction geek for most of my life; I can say the following with quite a bit of experience. Sanctuary is yet another series that can take an episode or two to "GET ONTO" it. I have found that as I keep tabs on the show, I am still intrigued enough every week to see what kind of creature of gadget they'll throw into a scene. The acting is very good with green screen filming. Some of the editing leaves the actors just a hint off, yet it flows well. CGI is very expensive & used with good taste to keep the monsters & such quality up to today's standards. Many years ago just getting an actor to try and imagine something was in front of them left alot of awkward movements. I am sure that if you watch the show for a week or two you won't be disappointed.

my Sanctuary purchase
Awesome and I can't wait for season three to come out! I purchase television series because I don't like commercials on T.V. and I don't own cable or satelite. In my household my family and I after dinner watch episodes on DVD. I also purchased Sanctuary first season. I had no idea that this was even on television. My family and I are antsipating the third season. Amanda Tapping is a great actress. Her character in this series is very different from the SG1 series. The other characters in this series are amazing and with each episode you will get hooked on wanting to watch the next one right after the other. I now follow Amanda on Twitter and her offical website just to see what she is up to now a days. I have never had a favorite actor/actress before and I do believe that I have found Amanda Tapping to be my favorite!

better and worse that season 1
Season 2 of Sanctuary may leave you nostalgic for the first season. There are many ups and down throughout the 13 episodes. Some of them can even be downright depressing, but they are balanced with some very good, light moments and episodes that aren't taken too seriously. Overall season 2 has a lot to offer and is a better season than the first even though it is darker and maybe less satisfying than the first season. I recommend this to any fan of science fiction and definitely to Sanctuary fans who want to continue following the story. And even if you aren't a fan or don't like the season, there is on scene in the last episode that makes the whole thing worthwhile. :)

ENJOYABLE ESCAPISM
13 more episodes, all with commentaries. A grim start with Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping) and her team facing their greatest crisis yet - the formidable Cabal launching a full-scale attack on the world's sanctuaries, determined to destroy all the abnormals they protect.Yes, attention is grabbed - but sadly not held throughout the season, the standard wobbling a bit. Visually the series remains stunning. Other aspects, though, need urgent attention if the whole concept of such sanctuaries is to be plausible. Repeatedly we are shown the magnificent, rambling building but never is there a realistic hint of how it is staffed. Surely not by just Helen, Will, Henry, Big Guy and Kate - who anyway seem to be elsewhere most of the time? Who does the cleaning, cooking, etc.? How many abnormals does the place house - scores, hundreds? Tending for them must surely be a colossal undertaking? Practicalities have not been thought through.Perhaps it is best to put the brain on standby and not to ask, just to sit back and relish the various adventures. There is certainly much to entertain. A personal selection of highlights? Ep.5 - Helen waking up in the future, the world in ruins. Ep.7 - a shocker, she in maximum security, charged with killing Big Guy. Ep.8 has strong echoes of one in Season 1 - watery perils again faced by Helen and Will, with them the only participants. Attempts at humour perhaps generally misfire, an exception Ep.10 with vampires inadvertently created. Immensely enjoyable too is Will's Bollywood Musical dance routine (although it has a serious purpose).Although arguably not as involving as it could be, there is much to please - and, hopefully, still to look forward to.

Excellent
Not watched a lot of episodes, but getting into it more. Very good and the acting in very good and the CGI pretty good considering the year. Excellent.

Sanctuary, Season 2.
I loved the first season, but found this is even better. There were one or two episodes that were a bit slow, but otherwise excellent. The special effects were superb and one can easily see the influence of SG1 on this series. Cannot wait to see Third Season. I do miss Helen Magnus' Daughter Ashley, and hope that she miraculously reappears in the near future.

Brilliant TV Series
This was bought as a present for my brother to add to his "Sanctuary" collection, as he's was a huge fan of the TV series. We were both sorry when they decided to finish the series. But at least with having the whole TV series on DVD we can watch it whenever we want. :-)
