a nice pair of pants to add to our raingear stash
The media could not be loaded. these pants are good quality! not too thick and not too thin. my husband normally wears 32x32 and tho these say 31 on the size chart, they are definitely roomy enough over at least a base layer and likely over jeans as well.tho they do make some noise, they aren’t super bothersome. of course, they’d be too loud for hunting. (we took video to try to capture the sound and size on - i’m struggling to get it uploaded, so check back later).i suspect they’ll be okay getting on and off over running shoes, but work or hiking boots would likely be a problem. we will consider re-waterproofing them again next season, if needed, but i suspect they’ll last at least a couple seasons.we will take them for our upcoming backpacking trip if there’s lots of rain in the forecast. if not, we’ll keep these in our adventure stash but probably pack our lightweight ponchos.ps. seller accepts returns, but you pay return postage. at ~ $10, these are clearly a great value to have on hand for backup.(i have recently purchased several brands of raingear to compare and review on our upcoming trip, so check those out, if it’d be helpful!)

Very basic rain pant
Very basic rain pant that should keep me dry. Disappointed waist did not have a draw string but these pants are budget priced.

FAIL - water soaked right through
I bought 2 pairs of these pants -- one for me, and one for my son -- for a backpacking trip we were going to do. I knew they were cheap, so I didn't expect them to be breathable. Fine. What I DID expect was for them to keep us dry. Unfortunately, they failed both of us miserably. We had constant rain as we were hiking. I made sure that the rain pants came up over my shorts, my shirt was tucked in to the rain pants, and my rain jacket was pulled down over them top of the rain pants. There should have been no way for rain water to get to my clothes. By the end of a day hiking in steady (but not torrential) rain, my shorts were soaked. When I was sitting down eating lunch, I would watch a drop of rain fall on the pants. It stayed beaded on the surface of the fabric for a little while, and then it slowly soaked right into the fabric. So, it might slow down the rain getting to your clothes underneath, but it will NOT stop it. That's the least I expect from rain gear. Even a trash bag will do that much. As a result of relying on these rain pants for a week in the backcountry, I was consistently soaking wet. I have to consider these rain pants a failure. I regret getting them, and I would NOT recommend them.

Fits right, does its job, and NOT too ugly/smelly
I bought the rain jacket (S440) and pants (S441). I'd read a bunch of reviews that it works but is ugly or that the plastic winds up smelling like chemicals. But I'm please to report: it's fine! I'm 6'1" 170 lbs and bought both in M, and it fits perfectly -- not too boxy or anything. It's not going to win fashion awards, but you're not buying rain gear like this to wear to the office of to the opera -- this is *gear* and you're wearing it to stay warm while bicycling or hiking or doing chores outside in heavy rain, especially in the cold. And it really is *perfect* for that, and looks *fine* for that.I was mostly worried about smelling like chemicals -- I'm *super* super sensitive to that, and once threw a horrible plastic shower liner out the window after opening it it was so bad. But this had a very mild smell that went away after airing out for a couple of days, so no worries. And for the price, this is probably the best value-for-money of any clothing item I've ever purchased... so 5 stars!(Additional advice: when I bought it most sellers were shipping from the UK, but I was able to find at least one "fulfilled by Amazon" for both jacket and pant, so look for those if you want normal shipping times.)

Functional, but not special.
Pretty thick material, makes the pants heavier than I want them to be. I think the description of 13oz is accurate (0.8lbs). Since the material is pretty thick they will take a beating. I intend on keeping these in my pack for backcountry hiking/camping. They take up more space than I would like though. No zipper on the bottoms. The leg opening is wide enough to get them over my boots, but not easily, and if my boots are muddy, then the inside of the pants will get muddy. They have snap fasteners on the leg openings to tighten them once they are on though which is nice. The pockets are slits to allow you to access your pants pockets underneath these. The slits are held together with velcro closures. Overall, pretty heavy and thick. They are durable, and if you plan on wearing them in really wet conditions then I think they would be good, but if you are looking for something to keep in your pack and toss on when you need to there are other pants that are lighter and pack smaller. Not the best for what I will use them for, but they are functional. As far as fit goes, I am a 31" waist and mediums fit. I am 6' tall and they are plenty long. Waist is all elastic and I think mediums would accomodate up to 34" waist, an definitely down to about 29" waist. They are baggy so they go over any pants easily, but they aren't that baggy, just a good loose fit through the legs.
