Philips Satinelle Essential Epilator
I really like this product, it works perfectly and is durable, I need to buy it because mine was from another country and the plug was not compatible with UK.

Great product & not painful!!
Just used this for the first time and was expecting it to be painful, looking at other reviews. It actually isn't painful at all so I'm really pleased with this. Seems to be really effective too and good value for money.

It`s corded! NEEDED
Bought this after having a more expensive epilator, which was wireless.I love this one SO much more, because it isnt wireless. I wanted an epilator that I could use for however long I needed. The wireless ones don`t offer you that, and takes SO much longer as you have to stop and wait for it to charge for an hour. Was becoming rather frustrating, and time consuming!I also love that I`m able to detach the epilator head for thorough cleaning. What I would have liked to be included, is added accessory heads or atleast an PROTECTIVE cap to protect the tweezers from any kind of damage etc. I`ve so far just been wrapping the head up in tissue after cleaning the tweezers each time I use it.

Much better than waxing
I bought this and have been using it since September 2024 - here's my review and some tips for anyone considering epilating.I had grown tired of shaving, not only the constant having to do it, but the stubble became unbearable on my legs. I had begun waxing, to much disappointment. I had professional wax appointments as well as trying different types of waxing at home (wax strips, hot wax, sugar wax) all types, including professional waxing just left my legs with stubble, the hair would break off instead of being pulled from the roots. This is what led me to this epilator, I've had a fantastic experience with this, and though I do still find some of my leg hairs will break instead of being pulled at the roots, it's very minimal. The only issues I have found are if the hair is too long, I noticed that because the hair would grow back so slowly and it would be soft (not stubble!) I didn't really notice it was growing, so then using the epilator on longer hair would have bad results. I shaved the longer hairs to reset them and then epilated after a couple of weeks of growth and it's completely sorted the issue out, and I now have super smooth legs again. It is painful, but you eventually get used to it. And the pain just confirms that the hair is pulled at the roots! I noticed that my legs could get very sore and bumpy but I started using a few drops of tea tree oil in my moisturiser straight after epilating and this completely eliminated the issue. I found it was best to epilate on my skin that was completely dry having showered the day before for me personally. Trying to do it after a bath or a shower didn't seem to work well for me.Overall I'm super impressed and I'm so glad I've found something that works well for me. Don't forget to exfoliate a few days after epilating and then once or twice a week between removing the hair!

Budget version
Definitely a budget epilator, this was my 3rd epilator. In comparison to the other two, the epilation area is smaller, it’s not so pleasant to grip and it doesn’t pick up as well. It also doesn’t flex as much, so it’s difficult to get to e.g. top of knee etc. I’ve had it 6 months and am ready to pay more again.

Masochism for beginners
[Update] The good part, I've used it a fair few times in the past week or two since I received it and after the first time, on the legs, there's no pain. The not so good ...At first I thought it was my newbie-ness or the lighting (they say do it after a bath which is in the evening when light isn't great) but no, it's definitely the epilator. It just doesn't do a thorough job. If you like 85% of your legs super smooth, it's fabulous. That 15% though? It matters. It ruins it. It's like having a lawnmower that you keep going over the same patch of grass with and it just doesn't mow it! Frustrating beyond belief . I've tried slow, fast, every perceivable angle, stretching the skin taut.... No Bueno. What's the point of using it if you then have to spend ages manually tweezing out every hair it refuses to epilate?! Ridiculous and not what I paid £35 for! Also, I've been shaving 2-3 times a week for decades and I've only had about three ingrown hairs in all that time. That's without special treatment or exfoliating. Using this epilator? They're everywhere! I exfoliate, use witch hazel, aloe Vera, moisturise etc yet I'm having to deal with a multitude of ingrown hairs. My legs look awful!I cannot recommend this item. The premise is good it's just really terrible at executing it.----------------------I'm 42 and usually a razor kinda girl but it's annoying having to landscape the garden every few days. I'm not a fan of creams, the cold wax strips are rubbish and due to being skint, super pale and with lots of moles (& a few tattoos) home ipl isn't an option so enter the epilator. My first introduction to an epilator was borrowing my mum's as a teen in the 90's. I didn't get past switching it on, the noise and gnashing tweezer blades of doom like metal teeth? I noped right out of it.I've given birth 5 times yet the thought of using an epilator seemed a whole different world of potential pain. I chose this one because it was cheaper than others and my vast googling seemed to recommend it. I could neither afford nor justify one of the ones with bells and whistles as I know for a fact I wouldn't use most of the extras.Being impatient I used it straight away. I'm not going to lie, it hurts. 20(?) Pairs of tweezer blades are mechanically yanking your hairs out from the root at speed, of course it hurts. However, within minutes it was bearable. When I tried to get the bits I missed, the next day, it was barely painful at all and my legs were so incredibly smooth. With shaving you just blunt the top of the hair and the rest is still under the skin giving that stubbly/Shadow the next day, as an epilator actually yanks it out by the root, there's nothing left so next day it's just so smooth.* Do not do it for the first time if you're on your period, your pain threshold is lower during your period (tattoos hurt more at that time too)* Get a hot bath first as it opens the pores and makes it less painful, also exfoliate. This will help prevent Ingrown hairs.*Make sure your skin is completely dry. Talc can help*Hold it at a 90° angle.* Move it *against* the direction of hair growth.* Go slow. If you move it too fast you risk snapping the hair and not pulling it out.* Good lighting really helps to see where you miss* Afterwards use witch hazel, aloe Vera or something with tea tree in. It will help soothe the skin and reduce any inflammation as well as reduce the risk of Ingrown hairs.* Moisturise!* Ingrown hairs and bacteria..... Not a good combo. I know you just want to touch your legs constantly because they're sooooo smooth! To the point you want everyon to touch them but don't. Bacteria.* Exfoliate every few days after.* Exfoliate about once a week for first month then hopefully after that it should be about once every 2-4 weeks* First time, don't be alarmed if your legs break out in loads of red dots/bumps. It's just your skin reacting to the trauma. They'll go down overnight, a day max. Taking antihistamine meds can help. Do it at night so hopefully by morning your legs will be back to normal.* If your hair is long, shave then wait a few days before epilating. Long hairs will just snap off and it'll hurt more.* There's two speeds. Personally I opt for fastest. Both yank your hair out by the root, nothing good will come from slowing that down.Pro's:*Small and light so comfortable to hold and use, feels nice in the hand.* Corded. Now I know it's tempting to want cordless but with corded you get continual and uninterrupted power plus it's always ready to use.* Comes with a standard UK plug (surprisingly many others don't and you need to then purchase an adaptor)* Affordable* Simple to use with no accessories that would only end up getting lost or remain unused.* Easy to clean* No need to constantly buy new blades like an when shaving, no mess or smell like creams and no stickiness from wax.Cons:* Cord could be a little longer* A drawstring pouch or cover for the blades would be a nice addition for storing it* NoisyConclusion:It's early days but I'll tentatively say I'm a convert? Only time will tell. If I can get 2-4 weeks hairfree it will undoubtedly be worth it.I'm not sure if it's my beginners lack of finesse/technique or the actual product but I find it difficult to get *every* hair and manually tweezer some strays out yet still find a few small patches. I never got that with shaving.I did try landscaping the garden but.... I think my mi*ge now has PTSD. It was traumatic. I'll persevere because I want to replace razors not partially replace them. I think it missed a fair bits, I'm undecided if I'll return to it . Though first time is the worst so it can only get better? Not tried my pits yet....On legs initial pain was about 6/10. By second time I used it? 2/10 pain. If the pain element is putting you off, bite the bullet. It's not that bad. It gets much much better.
