I got turned on to Yerba Mate tea by a friend. I decided to order some of my own. I was happy to receive the product relatively quickly (a little over a week, but it was shipped from Argentina). I opened the package, and reviewed the nutrition label simply out of habit. I'm a low-carb dieter and it's reflex now to flip a product over and review the nutrition info. I was shocked to see the label stating that it was 9grams of carbs per serving. I called a friend of mine, and asked her to look at her tea, and hers said 0 carbs, unless the tea itself was eaten (the leaves and such) and even then, it was 0.2grams per 1/2 cup. I'm not sure where the carbs in mine were supposed to come from, but the tea I had looked, smelled, and tasted just like my friends, so I threw caution to the wind and have been drinking it. Tastes great, and has a fresher, greener taste than regular iced teas. What I'll do is take about 4-5 tablespoons, put them in a big tea bag, and use that amount to make approximately 2 gallons of tea. I let it boil awhile with the bag in it, and instead of coming out dark brown like regular tea does, it comes out dark green. It's quite a refreshing change from sun tea and I drink it both hot and cold.

This is great Yerba Mate I bought over other similar brands. Reason I chose it was the price, it seemed the cheapest, and it was authentic so I pulled the trigger. I'm glad I did, it's my new substitute for coffee and green tea. It's a different type of alert compared to something like caffeine, you don't get jittery or fidgety as least in my case. As for the taste, it may take some getting used to for people but for black-coffee drinkers it actually tastes better somewhat like a bitter green tea. Depending on how much you dilute it or let the leaves sit in the water you can cater it to your specific taste. I don't even use the bombilla, I just use a tea infuser and I can even reuse the batch for about 4 refills or even more. The secondary benefit from the alertness focus and concentration is that the Yerba Mate seems to help me get a deeper more satisfying sleep. I don't necessarily understand the science behind it but it definitely makes me feel more well rested when I wake up I really like the feeling and this is why I'll continue to drink it over coffee. Do not however drink any close to bedtime or you won't go to bed for hours. Overall this brand was the best bang for the buck and it most definitely works as intended I will be buying again when this huge bag runs out.
