Good watch with some pros and cons
I happened upon this Invicta Pro Diver while it was on sale here at Amazon for 40% off the normal price. It was an impulse buy but I figured if it could tell the time, at a minimum, it would be worth the price I paid.Upon receiving it I removed a couple of links in the band to fit. Afterwards I set the time to align with the atomic clock time.As this is marketed as a diver watch, it has a screw-down crown.[Side note: For those reviews I see that mention water getting into the watch, remember that analog diver watches have a crown that needs to be unscrewed to adjust the time and have to be screwed back down snugly to keep water out. This watch is no exception.]The crown didn't unscrew as smoothly as I would have liked. It seems a bit rough that I initially attributed to threads that aren't machined all that well. However, I've seen other reviews that mention that this roughness can be taken care of with silicone grease used for waterproofing and diving applications. I haven't tried this yet. After a little time wearing the watch I've made some observations.Pros:- So far, the timekeeping is excellent. 24 hours after setting to the atomic clock time there has been no deviation, not a second gained or lost.- The size is perfect for me. Some Invictas can be obnoxiously large, both in the case diameter and height. This watch has a 43mm case diameter and the thickness/height is what I would consider "normal." It doesn't stand up conspicuously off the wrist like many other Invictas do.- The weight might be a tad more than a typical stainless steel watch but it's probably in the same ballpark. You know the watch is there, but it's not cumbersome.- It looks great. The blue dial with the little hammerhead shark on the dial and another on the rotating bezel is a cool little touch. There are also little waves stamped around the edge of the dial that are nice. They're the same color as the dial so they don't stand out and look gaudy. The cons:- There is no lume (glow-in-the-dark) on this watch. The dial has white hour dots around it that look like they should glow but after exposing the watch under a light for a bit and taking it into a dark room - nothing.[Edit: I was wrong about the lume. I tried again and it's there. Not sure where I went wrong in the first test.]- The second hand doesn't align with the markers around the dial. It's not a big deal unless you're looking for it, but it lands just about half way between each marker. I'm guessing some of these watches are aligned perfectly from the factory and some aren't. Mine isn't.- I have 2 other watches with a calendar date on it. They both move to the next date at midnight. This one starts to move well before midnight. I happened to notice it last night at 10:45PM that the date was halfway between 26 and 27 (today's date). Another thing that's not a huge deal but just a little annoying. All in all, I have no regrets with the purchase. I don't think I would be as happy if I had paid the regular Amazon price for it. There are probably better options for that price unless you're an Invicta fan. But at 40% off it was a good deal and has a place in my watch collection and rotation.
