Purchased this as a Father's Day present. Dad had made several mentions about how much he liked my Chantry Sharpener any time he used it in the kitchen and was planning on picking one up for himself. Fortunately I beat him to the punch. As to the product, nothing to complain about. Very sturdy, durable powder coated finish. Keeps the edge on every knife I have from the $6 plastic paring knives all the way up to the 8" workhorses. The only maintenance I've done was to add some white lithium grease to the ends of each steel to keep them spinning freely.Would definitely repurchase if stolen by jealous family members.

Best ever
I bought the first one of these knife sharpeners at a little mom and pot kitchen product store in Florida about 20 years ago. I liked it so well that I bought 2 more for my mother and my sister. The first one still works great and my mother has passed and gave hers to my son. It works great also. When I bought mine they were only $45. I also bought another for a friend 2 years ago from Amazon and he uses his everyday

Oldie and Very VERY Goodie ...
I bought this as a gift for our kids. I've had mine for close to 40 years -- have replaced steels once ...Originally developed for, and still used in, the food processing industry, the Chantry Classic was designed by Robert Welch in the 1970s and is on permanent display in the New York Museum of Modern Art as a 1970s classic.

New sharpeners do not work as well
We have an older version of this Chantry sharpener that works much better than this one. The only thing I can think of is that the sharpening wheels in this one seem to have a layer of paint or something one them whereas the old on does not (and doesn't appear that it ever did). Perhaps the paint will wear off and it will work better but for now it is what it is.

SImple compact and works great
Best sharpener around. Since it is small and compact I leave it on the counter right next to my knife block and sharpen knifes before every use. Have tired other fancier looking ones that do not work as well. i like the fact that you can replace the blades. If you have good knives and enjoy using them this sharpener is a gem.

Taylor's Eye Chantry Knife sharpener, white
I got this sharpener as a gift for my daughter. I got a chance to try it out when I was visiting and was disappointed. She says it is just ok, but I find that a sharpening stick works better. It is difficult to find the right place to put the knife in, as it will not sharpen smoothly otherwise. (I am assuming ) Edges come out ruff. If I have to spend time finding the right spot , it does not do it for me . Or it just is plain no good ? I was planning to get one for myself also but I will stick to what I have. Maybe we do not know how to use it.... It should not be that difficult !!

Don't buy new knives
I wasn't sure if I could find a sharpener for the knives that I had but then my sister took a knife class where they recommended this sharpener. It works on both serrated and straight knives and works very well.

Tried them all, now try the best.
I’ve tried various knife sharpeners. But this one, recommended by Sara Moulton, is the best. Compact, easy to use.

Sharp blades - very easy to use.
If you have just bought a new high quality knife (eg: Wusthof) it might be better to buy the recommended sharpener for that knife (or better still a whetstone) and then sharpen regularly to keep the factory angle on the blade. Also, Japanese knives will need a different 'asian' sharpener. Japanese knives sometimes arrive not fully sharpened and will need to be professionally sharpened with a whetstone. The best way to sharpen any knife is by using a whetstone, but it takes time and there is some skill involved.I have used one of these (Taylor’s Eye Witness Knife Sharpener) for ten years for most of my knives. Recently the internal steels have been wearing down and not working as well as they once were, so rather than buying replacement steels I bought a new one. I read a few bad reviews for this sharpener, not sure why.. perhaps they aren't using it correctly. The way I use it is by placing the knife down at the back of the blade and pulling the knife back towards me quite quickly. I push down fairly hard and try to keep the knife 'level'. If the blade is blunt you may need 50 or more 'swipes' to get a sharp edge. When you have a sharp edge just give the knife a few swipes every time you use it to keep it sharp. It's very easy to use and, if used regularly, the blades will stay very sharp.

The best sharpener out there
I used to have one of these years ago, we switched to something else and gave the old one to my mother in law. I used that old sharpener recently when visiting family and was reminded how good it was so I bought a new one. It's incredible, the knives are like new after just a few strokes. Don't look for anything else!

It's rubbish.
I've persisted with this for a good while now. It gets mixed reviews, but I have TEW knives and love them. I've tried all sorts of ways and pressure, but it blunts sharp knives. It's useless. I take no pleasure in saying this as I have said, I love their knives. I use a whetstone.

Best knife sharpener I've ever owned . . .
. . . and I've owned a few. This one works as it's supposed to.Quality build and efficient. Although it's smaller than I'd expected and you do keep missing the gap with the knife when you get going - making little stabs into the side of the sharpener but I can live with that.Definitely recommended.
