Very Handy
I've used these mostly to hold a small flashlight when taking macro photos. They are fairly stiff which I find to be a good thing as the hold their shape well.

Gear that is up to the task.
Platypod gear has worked well, as advertised, in the past. These goosenecks are no exception. They are well made, flexible and strong. They are a bit heavy for their size, but I do not think they would stand up to heavy use if they were much lighter. I use the goosenecks, along with cube lights for macro photography. A good investment as far as I'm concerned.

PLATYPOD GOOSENECKS SEEM TO STAY WHEREVER YOU PLACE THEM.
THE PLATYPOD GOOSENECKS SEEM TO STAY IN THE POSITION YOU HAD PLACED THEM WITH SMALL LIGHTS ATTACHED AFTER INITIAL TRY OUT. HOPEFULLY, THEY WILL HOLD UP UNDER USAGE FOR MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY.

Great addition to the Platypod
The goosenecks are designed to stay in place, but they are fairly easy to manipulate. Easy to put them together for longer reaches, or you can attach one at the base of the other. Only complaint is that the silver adapter is very hard to unscrew--but it is very secure. =) Overall a good purchase.

Good idea poorly implemented
The thought was good, but the design was extremely poor. I bought these to attach to LitraTorch lights and a Platypod Max as seen in some Platypod adverts. First, when tightened in the Platypod, the silver screws would freeze into the base and had to be removed with pliers. Knurled nuts were basically useless. Trying to adjust the lights/goosenecks (they seemed particularly inflexible) would cause even more base screw tightening on the left side, as mounted on the Max, and loosening of the gooseneck screw on the right side, which resulted in movement of the light. The setup also interfered with the downward movement of my macro camera lens, which isn't that long and was relatively high on an Oben ballhead, and limited the side to side action of the camera, too. Lastly, because the goosenecks use what are typically Max leg screw holes, there is only one middle leg in the front and the Platypod is not as stable. My camera almost tipped over to the right, even though all the legs were set at equal heights. I can't believe this setup was thoroughly tested given how quickly these defects materialized. Returning them and will buy some mini tripods or other stands for my LitraTorch lights.
