Terrific and comprehensive introduction to Access and databases
Disclaimer: I have not read through the entire book. But what I did read was fantastic. The book is very thorough but not full of heavy-technical reading in the least. They introduce a lot of very important points related to databases. Someone new to the subject would really do well to understand as completely as possible the facets of relational databases. The author(s) does that before getting into specifics. A straight jump into Access can be like getting lost in the wilderness and walking around in circles. Following this book will save a lot of time in the long run. It also introduces important practices related to databases and data in general. It is well worth your time to go through this book chapter-by-chapter and fully grasping what is presented. This is probably the best computer-related book I have read.

Excellent Instruction
Book was great for specializing layout for tracking church event database. Instruction for input validation and input mask was especially helpful.

could be useful for all but the most experienced users
Great book that covers a pretty good depth and at a range of skill levels. Basic database stuff is covered lightly including some normal form and why use a database at all, but so is some macro and VBA stuff. Clear examples and useful example files are also made good use of. I think this could be useful for all but the most experienced users. Good resource for your permanent bookshelf as well.

Good for from-the-ground-up learning, but redundant and wordy
I'm getting back into Access after having used it years ago, and there are pros and cons with this book. The pros: it's great for introductory and reference material. If you know nothing about Access, this is a good book to learn it from the ground up. The cons: it's pretty redundant. The book is over 1,100 pages and I'm one-third of the way through so far, but I can say this book could be probably 2/3 the size it is without the redundancy. It covers a topic, then covers it again a few pages later, then again more pages after that. Granted, covering a new topic is good for beginners, but scattering the same topic coverage many times through the book makes it a little frustrating to keep coming back to something once you've covered it. If you can skim through the parts you're familiar with though (and be confident you haven't missed something because of a feature that should have been covered when a topic was first discussed), then you'll get a good grounding and should be able to use this book for reference later.

Good Reference
As with all the 'Bible' Series books this is one of my favorite reference sources. There are good, clear examples of most of the coding problems I run into. The only thing I did not find was a good method to replace the .ADP feature of the 2010 Access and earlier. That however is not the books fault, that is a dropped support issue from Microsoft. It reads better than some novels I have read.

This book needs a good editor.
I am new to Access, but I am pretty good with Excel. I bought this book since it is marketed as a "comprehensive tutorial resource." I believe it is comprehensive. The problem is, it's disjointed with redundant text. For example, the Microsoft Windows scroll bars are given exhaustive treatment in Chapter 5, twice. I am flabbergasted that someone reading a book ostensibly about Access needs in-depth discussion of a Windows navigation feature.Another example: the last sentence in a paragraph is "Dates are actually stored in the database without any formatting, so the format you select for a field doesn't affect how the data is stored." Great. Immediately after this paragraph is a Note in a gray box: "Formats affect only the display of the data. They don't change storage of data in the table." Isn't this the same thing? Was the redundant note necessary?Reading this book feels like listening to a very knowledgeable person who is disorganized and lacks teaching skills. Another way to look at it is this book is the result of too many revisions as Access has changed over the years. I feel like every time the authors updated the book, they thought of new things to insert, but did not take the time to see how their inserted text changed the flow of the book.My hope is this book can be revised again, this time with a good editor, and perhaps feedback from people who bought and used the book.

Everything you could want to know about Access
This is a great book for beginners to intermediate users. It literally covers almost everything you could want to know about Microsoft Access. There were things I didn’t even know that I didn’t know and this book explains not only the how but why you should do things a specific way.

I’m ordering another copy
I used Access 2 in the late 90’s and haven’t touched it since 2001. Now I need to build some things for work. I bought a copy previously that I use at my desk. This thing is pretty beefy. It’s a half mile walk to my car each way, so I’d rather buy a second copy than lug this pig back and forth. There’s a lot of material in here and I’ve been pretty happy in my experience with it so far.

Great book!
The go-to choice if you want to learn Access and all its details. Highly recommend it. If you like everything well explained like me you won’t regret it.

Top Notch
The best tutorial document I have seen for a long while. Very comprehensive, well written, logically laid out and explained. I would not work without it. .

Comprehensive and clear.
Access 2016 Bible is useful, readable and comprehensive. But I suspect that it has simply been updated from previous versions of Access, for there are many rather annoying errors and omissions. For example, in chapter 7, which deals with linking to external data, the downloadable files are not all the same as those mentioned in the text. In chapter 9, the exercise instructions for entering criteria give different fields in the text and the figure. Perhaps most annoying was that when I tried to download from the publisher’s website the files needed to work the examples in the text, the files were not available. Looking on-line at discussion groups, I found that many others had noted this problem, and had been given a short-term link from which to get the download. In fairness to the publisher (Wiley), when I contacted them they repaired the link quickly. Despite these comments, which are mostly editorial, the book is a well laid out and logical description of all the aspects of MS Access, and I have therefore assessed it as five star. It can be used directly as a tutorial from beginning to end for those new to the program, or as a work of reference for those seeking details of some particular aspect of working with Access. The explanations are detailed and clear, and it contains the best description of how “relationships” work that I have seen.
