Don't buy for a small car like a Honda Civic
The indoor heat sensor is inside the clock housing. If you're running your heater there's no place I could find to mount the clock on the dash or floor console where the indoor temperature wasn't affected by this by as much as 30 degrees F. The outdoor temperature sensor has a short wire on it and you're stuck with mounting somewhere around the drivers door. I found even mounting the sensor at the bottom of the fender by the door and driving for 30 minutes at 70 mph in 20 degree weather the clock still would read 35 degrees. When I would stop at a stop light the temperature would rise to 50. So it must be picking up heat from the engine or exhaust. Using a laser type heat gauge I found the only place I could put the heat sensor to get away from this problem with the wire length you're given is to mount it is in the side window post. But I would have to drill a 3/4" hole to access that area of the side post to attach it to the inside of the outside skin. I think that would weaken the structural integrity in that area to much. I would lengthen the heat sensor wire and move it somewhere else but I think the way electronic heat sensors work is to change the electrical resistance with the temperature change. So if I add to the wire length I think that would affect the temperature reading to.The clock stopped working after 2 months. I replaced the batteries with no luck. So in the garbage it went.

It looks good, but I sure wish it were better at ...
I had high hopes but it misses the mark, primarily because the outside temperature sensor wire is too short. I have a 2000 Ford Taurus and mounted the unit in the middle of the dash. The wire was just long enough to reach the front door jam. Well, engine heat works its way there since the engine is mounted forward and on the same level as where the sensor must be mounted. If only the wire were long enough to put the sensor forward of the engine or somewhere away from engine heat.As has been mentioned, the backlight remains on all the time, unless you plug it into a switched power outlet. The cigarette lighter plug powers the backlight, and there is a single watch batter that runs the clock and thermometer. It looks good, but I sure wish it were better at showing the temperature.Perhaps your car has a place that's good for the sensor but not mine. . . .

Not worth the time temp or volt
This product looks exactly as pictured. i purchased this product primarily for the clock. The clock is in 24 hour format all the time, no way to switch it. the temp sensors seem way off and the voltage display fluctuates all the time from - 13.2 .4.2.3.4.2.3 14.1.2.1.2.4.3 (kinda distracting). the back- light looks nice in amber and matches my Mazdas interior nicely and is easy to read. the blue back light, however, is hard to read, especially at nite. the unit is hard to mount as it comes with a little 1" inch velcro tab on the back as well as a flip down foot, however it doesn't stay in any one position as it is not notched or anything, and will fall backwards if you dont prop it up with something. the wires come out of the right side (probably meant for right handed car) and the unit seems a bit bulky especially if you have the plug it into a 12v cig port(of which i had to get a splitter) just to get the back light to turn on; and if your cig port doesn't turn-off when you turn off your car, then you would have to unplug it every time you parked. also the unit uses a small watch battery to power the unit without the backlight. would be nice to have maybe a AAA or something more standard (just a thought)...... this unit did however work well on my motocycle 8)

Good so far.
Good so far. A few things, for clarification-This comes with one button battery. Initially, you may look at the unit, see it has two battery slots, and start swearing like me. Don't worry! One has no leads and appears to be just for keeping a spare. The unit works on one.Second, the internal battery powers the clock and thermometers displays. The voltage readout and backlighting come on once you're plugged into your 12V. The clock and thermometers will not work without the internal battery. When I first put the battery in, the two thermometers were reading different temperatures. And I mean very different, by 8 or 9 degrees. So that's something to keep an eye on.Lastly, the unit is smaller that I had expected. Seeing as how it is meant for use in a car, though, that's not a bad thing. The numbers are clearly legible.so far, I'm happy with it.

best of three that i bought and tried
I bought three different versions of cheap car clocks with in/out temps. (I don't know why my Alpine headunit nor my Dodge Ram Truck don't already have these functions built in.) This is my favorite. Took a bit to figure out how the little battery goes in. The battery came separate so it wasn't discharging, but it took a magnify glass to figure out why it wasn't going in right. (There's room for a spare battery which adds to the confusion.) I got instructions, but it had no mention of how to install the little battery. I like that it has a battery and thus does not forget the time on the slightest whim like the other two. (I don't know yet how long the battery will last.) The two color backlights is a great feature. (Adding an off or very dim mode, would be even a better feature.) It's simple to use, the others had weird modes, lot of buttons, and an alarm clock function, which i don't need nor want. It's also the smallest of the three and thus easier to find a place to mount on my already crowded dashboard.

poor viewing angle
The time, temperature (C or F) and voltage appear to be correct, that's the good. The three star rating is for these points:- Viewing angle is very narrow, you can only really read it if the face is directly toward you.- The back light color can be changed from orange to blue, but there is no back light off switch when it's plugged into a 12v source.- The voltage is constantly changing, it's annoying. It flickers from 13.9 to 14, to 14.1 non-stop when the car's running. A delay of 30 to 60 seconds to stop the constant change would be nice.I haven't had a chance to test the ice warning or low battery alert so can't write to those points.
