I would not carry my laptop in this case in the rain, no. I am sure the case is splash- / spill-proof (ish). The material is like a cloth/ board mix, and looks to me like water will soak into it. I haven't wet mine so I can't say for sure. The other thing is the zip - water is going to get through that for sure. That said, I'm still happy with the cases, they are compact and do a good job.

This fits my 15” MacBook Pro , so might be a bit big, but definitely would hold it snug and safe
