CREATESPACE The FileMaker 16 Manual for Novices

Maybe I need to spend more time with this book, but after carefully reading several chapters and skimming several more, I haven't found much on using Filemaker fields, tools, variables, or layouts any better. They mention many interesting topics, but don't define them well or tell you how to use them. An example is a "Foreign Key Field". I bet I could use one, but was never enlightened as to their use. I also missed having an index in the back so I could look up info on terms used.I was swayed by all 5 star reviews here and the book apparently being for novices, but it seems more a book about what NOT to do. In just the first few pages - "You must be careful", "Don't use them", "Be very, very careful", "Here's a tool that should simply never be used", "Don't do it! Ever!!", "Whatever you do, don't....", Don't, Don't Don't. I was hoping to learn what I could do!I can tell the authors have a lot of experience creating databases, and are warning people of common mistakes, but I will need a different book to help me learn how to use Filemaker.

This is a great book. It is specifically written for beginners. . Important topics from database design to dealing with clients are covered in a comprehensive and easy to understand format. I would recommend this book for anyone new to FileMaker.

Crap...a few tips for advanced users, nothing for novices.
