Does the refill have to have a notched rim, I purchased another brand and it will not sit down tight to torch.

about a 90 degree twist.... the exact same way you installed it

Q: What brand and size of butane gas should i buy to use with this for best results?

You can find 8 oz. stove butane cans at most decent hardware stores. They are often found in the camping section. You can also find them on Amazon, the price is great if you need a dozen.
