Q: Can you use it upside down for pop up sinks?

I don't know what a "pop up sink" is, but the SS strainer doesn't care which way the water flows through it. It works fine both ways.

Q: Can this prevent fruit flies and gnats from coming out?

Honestly, not sure if the screen holes are small enough. I bought them for a completely different purpose. Also not sure how you’re using it to keep out gnats and fruit flies. It might be better to just buy a piece of screen, similar to what is use on screen doors, but not sure how you’re using it.

Q: Is it easy to clean？

Very easy, I take it out and use my sprayer to clean it out. Best purchase I ever made.
