Fiske Guide to Colleges 2023

Comprehensive, literate and insightful.
I'm going into 11th grade this year and decided to pull the trigger on this guide in hopes of acquiring precious cognizance of the unique aspects each of the colleges throughout the USA has to offer. I've only briefly skimmed through it - paying slightly more attention to the distinguished Ivy League schools - but I've greatly appreciated the detail of what I've read. The guide provides statistics, historical accounts, and academic information on each of the schools, as well as valuable, unvarnished insight into their respective atmospheres (often from a student's point of view). There's also a "Best Buys" page, which is essentially the 20 (10 private, 10 public) best colleges from a price/value standpoint. It's very reassuring to know that whenever I have any questions, uncertainties regarding a particular college, I can always refer to this book to answer. Very satisfied and definitely recommend.

Ratings rather than rankings of colleges
Using this for the second time for kid #2. What I find useful and unique about this guide are the student comments about what it’s like to attend a particular school. And unlike online forums, their feedback is probably more balanced, representative, and not overly biased towards a particular viewpoint. I also appreciate the curation of less familiar schools (at least to me) with good academic programs.

My wife likes it, but why did we buy it when this information is all online?
Voluminous and full of great content, but so much of it is found online already...

Excellent college review book
Fisk puts out the best college review book in my opinion.

Must have
Great to understand the strength of the top 300 colleges, how you or your candidate matches up to the requirements and the competition, location and other information that you get on visiting a college in person. It is almost a good substitute if you don’t want to travel places or some places are too far away.

Cover ripped, but content is decent
I bought this for my high school junior. He has looked up many schools he is interested in attending. It is nice that the schools can be looked up by major of study and shows requirements for acceptance. It also sorts schools by cost. It is not a comprehensive guide and there are many schools that are not included. I would check to see if there is a free online resource that provides this information first.

A college guide without prices - thumbs down
The is the first college guide I've purchased since I was a college junior in 1992. Great book, except there are no prices for the colleges. I don't know about most people, but we have a budget for our soon to be college bound son. I would think listing in state and out of state tuition would be an absolute must for this guide - apparently not. Annual tuition costs are the first thing I'm considering before even letting my son consider a college. Huge miss not including this info by Source Books.

A must have for anyone who does not know where to go to college
This book was invaluable for putting together a college list. It helped us understand all the important differentiators for each university and helped us discover colleges that are an excellent match for my son.
