FloodStopLeak Detector Water Sensor, Wired

Great to have, but not perfect
It's nice to have a leak sensor that will shutoff the water, if that is the source of the problem. I had this installed under my DW and sink in case of leaks when I replaced the DW. It caught a leak in the sink drain pipe, but shutting off the water to the DW was useless because it had already filled and was emptying. When I was in the kitchen that morning, I heard a beep-beep-beep so knew to look around for the source of the sound. It beeps every 2-1/2 minutes so it took a while to narrow the sound source to the underrsink cabinet. Since this was plugged in, I would expect if not a louder beep (I guess many people have it inside a cabinet), at least more than once every 2-1/2 minutes since it has a mute button. Should be at least as annoying as a smoke detector with a dying battery! Since it has a contact closure (a nice feature BTW), I'll wire it up to my alarm system that notifies when a water leak is detected. For the price, a couple of bucks extra for built-in Z-wave would be perfect. Or even an external accessory. A loud or remote alert would be nice so that someone can come and clean up the leak. As it is, you likely won't hear the beeps until you come to either use the appliance (e.g., visit laundry room) or investigate why there is no hot water (e.g., valve on HW tank). It's also nice you can buy additional sensors to cover a larger area.

Expanding my Floodstop to protect my house!
I've had a floodstop for years on my washing machine, and its been very reliable. At one point I had a question, and was able to speak directly to the owner/designer of the floodstop system; and he gave me advice and offered to replace a gear part for free if needed. After finishing the basement, and putting new flooring on the main floor, I decided I needed whole house flood protection. I used a floodstop water heater valve & controller, and put the valve on the main water line in my house; and when I finished the basement I ran wires anywhere in the house there was a water source. Then I'm putting these sensors in every bathroom, the sump, the dishwasher, water heater, and the refrigerator, so if I get a leak it will shut off the water automatically and avoid flood damage. I also have a sewage pump, and I put in a float valve in the sump so the floodstop will shut off the water if the pump fails so I don't get septic backup.I chose floodstop because it was inexpensive, robust and simple. The newer controller has battery backup and runs a test cycle monthly. Now if only I could get a discount on my homeowners insurance! The floodstop has everything I need

This doesn't appear to be a simple open/close circuit when ...
This doesn't appear to be a simple open/close circuit when dry/wet. It must be using an ohm measurement by the Floodstop device. I bought to hook up to my alarm system transmitters which can work off a basic normally open / normally closed circuit. I checked for continuity when water was applied and it remained closed when both dry/wet so my only guess is the floodstop device is measuring changing ohm resistance to determine if there is water. It does say it is for the floodstop device so I can't really fault it, but there was an "answer" or a "review" where it said it is a simple open/close circuit and that is why I bought it. Unfortunately I waited too long to return and the return window has since passed. I will try selling them online I guess.

Bad Washers and No Warranty for Online Purchase
The product basically appears to work as advertised but there are some issues. First, both the supplied washers failed. This defeats the purpose since this means the connection will leak between the valve and the water supply. So you can have a major leak and this device will be the cause, not the solution. If you buy, suggest investing in some new washers. Second, the product package explicitly states the product is not eligible for online purchase. (See photo). So if you buy online and product doesn’t work (maybe due to a bad washer!) you are out of luck as far as a warranty. Another issue is this product has no internet connection. A competing product does, but I decided to go with this one due to the ability to add additional sensors, as I wanted sensors under both washer and dryer (dryer has a steam function so it has a waterline as well). But sensors seem to be very sensitive so be sure you put control panel somewhere easily accessible so you can turn off any false alarm.

Additional Sensor for water leaks as designed.
Put one outside the Westland PI-24 24" x 23.75" Drain-A-Way Pan and the one that shipped with the Floodstop for Washing Machines, FS 3/4-H90 Version 4 inside the pan so belt and braces on any leaks. This is a good thing as I live in an apartment and my water leaks don't just impact me.Tests perfectly, hope never to see it operate for cause.

Sensors work well to extend FloodStop
Ordered these to extend sensor coverage for the FloodStop whole house system I just installed. We have a large number of water fixtures where we do not have a floor drain in the basement. So one of these goes near the water heater, one near the pressure tank, and two in the area of the water filters and softener.I put down shower pan liner and built a small moat around all the equipment so any leak will eventually reach one of the sensors and trigger the FloodStop. We already testing this live due to a cracked female PVC schedule 40 threaded connector (installed by a plumber no less).I'll be ordering at least 2 more sensors to provide remote sensing of the dishwasher/kitchen sink and laundry areas.

Great solution for multiple leak detection sites
Bought 2 of these to add to an existing flood stop device in our cellar. Bought 2 strand "telephone" wire to daisy chain the additional ones about 50' each from the originally installed sensor. Easy to do, toughest thing was "wire management" - because I'm particular. Regardless, these devices will trigger the water shut-off device when only a wet thumb is touched to them. Regardless of distance. Great product, super solution to shutting off water supply if fear of leaks keeps you up at night.
