Best router I’ve had
Great quality, easy to setup, excellent signal and coverage. Interface (SRM) is intuitive and familiar with Synology NAS devices. Good mobile app. Lots of features that are easy to setup emotion in depth knowledge and guidance on the Synology website where needed is superb. Could be a bit prettier but that would be nitpicking!

A well build router with limitations
I have had this router for several months. I had a range of different routers like Ubiquiti Dream Machine, Edge - X, Huawei B535, and Bitdefender Box 2, before the Synology RT6600AX. I also have the previous model of Synology router RT2600ac and MR2200ac as a mesh setup. The positives -1. Good hardware (vs 2600 and 2200)2. It is a very solid router with many useful built-in apps like Threat Prevention, Traffic Management, and more.3. Loan balance (Smart WAN) setting is surprisingly user-friendly. I am well impressed.4. Synology support is generally good.5. It delivers what a router should do i.e. I am on EE full fibre 900Mbps download 100Mbps upload package and the actual speed is close - but ONLY WITH ETHERNET (more on this later). The negatives -1. SRM 1.3 has fewer features than SRM 1.2 - Synology removed a few useful features including the internet performance test option between APs.2. VPN Plus (Synology SSL VPN) does not always work - it disconnects itself silently, which leaves you unprotected without warning. Keep in mind that if you were connecting to the Synology SSL VPN remotely, the DOWNLOAD speed on the VPN client will be capped by the UPLOAD speed of the network where the router locates. e.g. if you have 900 Mbps download speed and 100 Mbps upload speed at your office where the Router locates, the max download speed on your laptop (that connects to Synology SSL VPN) is capped at 100 Mbps, not the 900 Mbps.3. Wifi performance - this is the biggest disappointment. It is MAXED at 500 Mbps download even if you are on a 1GB internet package. The upload speed via WiFi seems fine. To clarify, it is only the WiFi download speed that is halved. Wifi upload speed and ethernet download/upload speeds are fine and are close to the theoretical ISP speed. (If someone can get more than 500 Mbps wifi (not ethernet) download speed please correct me.) Otherwise, I would give it a big fat full 5-stars.Conclusion - another well-made router from Synology. It delivers what a router should do. I would still recommend buying it. But if you have the 2600 + 2200 mesh setup, do not upgrade to 6600 (and if you are on SRM1.2, do not upgrade to SRM1.3) unless absolutely have to. If you need more than 500 Mbps download speed on WiFi, do research first.

Synology Mesh Network Has Issues
I've been using a Synologt 2600 for many years. Due to having a long bungalow I had the Synology towards one end and a Cisco wifi router connected to the Synology to boost signal at the other end of the house. This worked quite well.I upgraded to the Synology RT6600AX in part because of the promise of a smart seemless mesh networking system. I replaced both the previous routers with the RT6600AX routers. Kept them in identical places. But after many months I've abandoned the mesh system and now have them set up as a main router and a repeater. The mesh system was very temperamental. Older ( 5+ years ) hardware suffer very frequent drop outs, to the point of being barely usable. Newer hardware had less drop outs but never the less every so often will randomly disconnect every 6 hours approx.Since swapping back to the manual main router + repeater its worked so much better and no regular drop outs at all. Even the older hardware is suffering very few disconnections now.The mesh wifi networking promises a lot but too flaky to be usable, especially with older hardware.

Starker WLAN-Mesh-Router

Rock Solid Performer, however...
This router is amazing in every sense. Its solid performance, features and security are at the top. However, the only problem, is that it doesn't support 160MHz in Australia (at least not yet - See below for update), even though it says so in the description, but it's wrong. So, for those whom 160MHz is important (and it should be) because this router supports the 5.9GHz band for Wi-Fi use, and that's what enables the router to access a third 160MHz high bandwidth channel that is free from radar signal interference. In Australia however, that frequency range needed for 5.9GHz Wi-Fi to work at that high bandwidth is not enabled. But may not be too long now, once it's supported in Oz, a firmware update should enable it on the router, as it already supports it.Apart from that, the Synology RT6600AX is a solid router from performance, features and security. I previously had the ASUS ROG Rapture GT-11000AX, but it went kaput after it decided to no longer advertise Wi-Fi to devices (in fact, stay away from the ASUS), eventually I returned it and got the Synology.Compared to the ASUS, there are no dropouts, in Wi-Fi Connectivity, the connection is stable. The Synology comes with an abundance of features, that for the average user it could be overwhelming, but for savvy users, those features are beneficial. It comes with built in Firewall (an actual Firewall), not like most common routers, you could create VLANs (or multiple SSIDs) and VPN (including site to site VPN). You can also separate the radios (2.4GHz and the two 5GHz bands) or you could use the smart connect feature, so you can use the same SSID and WiFi password to connect, in addition to guest network.Attach a high-speed USB (in my case I am using Sandisk Extreme Pro), to install additional packages like Threat Prevention (this is an IPS/IDS, and malware protection) to enhance the security of the router and network overall. It is important that you're using a high-speed USB and formatted as EXT4, this will be used for installing packages and logs, therefore you wouldn't want to use a slow USB that may impact connectivity performance (also a tip disable the downgrade USB 3 device). The router comes with DDoS protection, as well as using DoH (DNS over HTTPS), through either Google or Cloudflare.Update: The DoH drop-down menu only gives you Google and Cloudflare. However, I previously thought only these two are available and supported. But I have just noticed that this can actually be configured to include any provider by entering the URL of any DoH server like Quad9. You need to obtain the settings from your preferred DoH provider. You could also enable high-priority traffic for up to three devices, so in my case that's more than sufficient (I have my PC, XSX, and PS5) set to high priority, as the XSX and PS5 are used for gaming and the PC mostly for WFH. The cool thing is that when you enable UPnP, it doesn't keep it open, but automatically adds the device to the list whenever the device is turned on and require UPnP (especially for game consoles). Once the device is offline, it's removed from the firewall list.It also comes with an app (naturally) which is fully functional and allows you to monitor your network and configure the router through the app.The only drawback of this router, well, it's not aesthetically appealing. It feels like it's designed in early 2010 and belongs mostly at an office location rather than a home (compared to the Netgear Nighthawk routers for example), but it shouldn't put people off, as they're trading looks with heaps of useful functionalities.UPDATE: I have contacted Synology support, and this is what I have received: "the RT6600ax router does not support 160MHz in certain regions, including Australia. Australia Wireless regulator ban frequency 5600MHz~5650MHz (part of high-band) and we don't support running 160Mhz on low-band."However, changing the region, from Australia to US, allowed for additional features to be enabled, such as DFS channel and 160MHz.
