I bought this almost as a joke… and out of curiosity. However after trying it the first time was amazed that it actually allowed me to stay in the sauna a bit longer and more comfortably. I don’t know the science behind how a flannel (that’s what it feels like to me) hat keeps my head cooler in a 190 degree box, but it does. It’s goody looking and I have no idea what it says on it, but I enjoy making up different saying to impress my guests.

My husband has a really big head (24"/61 cm circumference) and so this does not really fit him. It also barely fits me (23"/59 cm). I'd say that it would work fine if your head circumference is up to 22"/56-57 cm max. Aside from that, it is wool and it does get the job done.

First thoughts: this hat stinks! There was a weird musty wool smell when I first opened the packaging. It faded after a few minutes airing out, but still a little gross arriving like that. Trying it on, it kinda perches on my head--the shape once unfolded is oddly long in height, but narrow around the head. Maybe better for someone more petite or pre-teen? The fabric is thick and stitching seems of good quality.

The odd thing about sauna hats is that the thick wool insulates and protects your head/brain from the heat. This can provide comfort or help one stay in the sauna slightly longer. But those hats are usually 6-7mm thick. This hat, as advertised and stated, is just 3mm thick. It might be fine for someone with thick hair. Otherwise, it is comfortable and has the loop on top so one can hang it to dry after rinsing.

This hat is made of a nice thick wool that starts a little snug but grows with use. I prefer this shape for my sauna hats and it works great - I fill it with ice and wear it on the top shelf of our local banya, a traditional steam sauna in my neighborhood to help regulate my body temperature and protect my hair.
