Just what I needed for in the sand. It's not heavy when I carry it either. That was the biggest part is that it's not heavy. Fill it up and shake and get your prize : )

Definitely good if you're playing in the sand! I originally got this for sifting our stuff from our garden...this gets clogged up a bit when working with dirt or soil. But it works with some elbow grease, and has a large capacity.

I got this to use with my metal detector on lakefront that is mainly very small rocks and I think it works well for that. I like that the scoop has small holes to drain the water. I don't think the shovel would work for any kind of soil, except the most sandy or loamy. It's a thick plastic but I don't see it working with clay because of how difficult it is to get a dull blade into soil like that. So - good for pebble beaches and sandy soil, not really meant for other types, which is fine.

This is perfect for detecting on beaches. Originally I wanted a metal one, but they are rather heavy, expensive, and would set off my detector at times. This sifter and shovel are all plastic and won't set off your detector if you get too close to the coil.This one is affordable and works fine. I would have made one minor design change and have the handle lock in place both front and back. The handle flexes where it attaches each time I use it and hopefully this is not a future failure point.The shovel is nice, but really not necessary for a sandy beach unless you are in the surf line with harder wet sand. It is certainly rugged enough for digging in sand, but not hard ground.

I love to go out "treasure hunting" as we call it and love to do it at certain beaches. The only issue having to dig through all the sand and sift it, so this was a nice find. Both pieces are pretty sturdy, yet super light weight. Putting it through sand worked decently to sift some sand for an object we found (nothing too exciting just a bottle cap). Price wise it seems very average rate for what these go for. The scoop isn't too awful big and the shovel practically fits inside of it so it's not too much to add to the metal detecting bag.

I love the weight and size of this scoop. The holes allow for more sand to come out quicker leaving behind the treasure. I had a similar one that didn't have as many holes and it was very difficult to shake out the sand. Not this one!! It was great with dry and wet sand.

This is nice to help search for beach glass. Of course the holes let the smaller pieces through, but no big deal as I really am after bigger pieces. The plastic is heavy duty, so no worry about it breaking. I normally just dig through the rocks sand, so this set is going to help save my fingernails from damage.
